Re: Nintendo Wii (Revolution) Information, hardware, games discussion

Rumours that the Wii Remote is not just a speaker but also a microphone! Could be fake, but if true, would add to the feature list and be cool for karaoke and would make sense for Wii Nintendogs and various other games.

    Let's hope!

In the past, the pricing of a system in Japan hasn't been all that clear an indicator of the pricing in the States. It is still possible that the Wii will cost more here than it will in Japan, and its also possible that it will cost less here and it will in Japan. That figure though makes it seem more likely that the highest price we can expect may be $230 rather than$250.

I bet it will be less here than Japan, demand will be much greater over there.

Nintendo today confirmed that the price of the Wii system will not exceed $250 in America, or 25,000 yen in Japan. The company plans to ship 6 million systems to retailers around the world between its launch in the fourth quarter of 2006 and the end of its fiscal year on March 31, 2007.

Nintendo's projections are part of a full-year financial forecast that predicts growth of 18 percent in sales globally, based on anticipated demand for the Nintendo DS, as well as the launch of the Wii.

The company also said it expects to sell 17 million Wii games in the period. Exact launch dates, identification of the launch library of titles and details on the Virtual Console aspect of Wii will be announced soon.

I gotta say, this looks pretty fun with the Wii controller.

Is it confirmed? I thought they said it would be under $250.

Re: Nintendo Wii (Revolution) Information, hardware, games discussion

A thriving community of fans devoted to everything Nintendo

The Japanese company PC-Success recently had a listing for the Wii. While just a few days ago we heard that the Wii will not cost more than $250, PC-Success had an even sweeter story. The listing they had posted showed the Wii selling for 18,000 yen ($160 US roughly) all taxes included. The post has since been removed, but no reason or explanation was given. On top of that, Nintendo has not given an official confirmation/denial of the posting incident. Was Nintendo’s less than $250 price announcement a little teaser to hold us over until we hear a less than $200 announcement? Keep your fingers crossed! Thanks to Alex for the heads up!

*UPDATE* I just wanted to clear up some things since a few questions have arisen. Nintendo has only said that the Wii will be less than $250, they did not say that it will sell for $250. The official press release from Nintendo states, “Nintendo also confirmed that the price of the Wii system, which incorporates unique freehand control, will not exceed $250 in America, or ¥25,000 in Japan”

Iwata Comments On Wii Controller, Online Functionality

                        Good read.

Q: What will the Wii offer when connected to the Internet?

Iwata: I'll give you a specific example we are planning for. Let's say your Wii is connected to the Internet in a mode that allows activation on a 24-hour basis. This would allow Nintendo to send monthly promotional demos for the DS, during the night, to the Wii consoles in each household. Users would wake up each morning, find the LED lamp on their Wii flashing, and know that Nintendo has sent them something. They would then be able to download the promotional demo from their Wii's to their Nintendo DS's. This will, of course, be possible in gaming stores too, but I think users will enjoy being able to do this within their homes. The key merit here is having promotional material delivered to your home, instead of having to go collect it yourself...

I'll be there on launch day to buy one, and I've actually played my gamecube and my DS a lot more than my 360 the last couple of weeks. I'm just glad I bought the Cube (supposedly you can use the Wavebird on the Wii) and I'll be able to download demos and such to my DS.

That sounds like a really cool feature. I'm trying to raise cash now for a DS Lite and I'm on a 6 month mission to sell my wife on the wii (no pun intended :wink. So that said, I'd be happy to be able to play demos of DS games that are automatically loaded.

I had been wondering how nintendo would implement the Wii and the DS working together... nice to have some indication now.
