If standing and waving a video game controller is considered exercise, then the U.S. truly is a nation of fat, lazy f*cks!

It's pretty sad that DDR is one of the few things that gets some kids to exercise these days. We need video games to tell our kids to get off the couch? WTF?

PK, are you not going to get the Wii anymore or are you just going to sit this out and see how next gen pans out? From some of your messages, you really are enjoying the DS Lite which is cool.

Not getting the Wii because it's not the bargain that I hoped it would be. Retail price of $250, with $60 for another nunchuk-controller set, which is essential because it's such a multiplayer-oriented machine, adds up to $310 out of the box. That's only $80 less than a 360 Premium, which is a far technically superior machine with much better online gaming capabilities.

Right now, I'm a very, very content handheld-only gamer with my DS Lite. It is the best bargain in video gaming, BY FAR, when you factor in the quality of the unit, the sheer fun of the games, the portability and online, wireless play.

It is so refreshing to just sit down with a game and enjoy it for its pure gameplay joy instead of wondering if the graphics are up to snuff, if there are enough modes to justify the $60 retail price, if my $400 machine is going to show the Three Rings of Death midway through a game.

The Wii has returned me to my gaming roots planted in the early 80s with an Atari 2600 and has reminded me of what's really important in this hobby -- quality, affordable gameplay from games, not incredible technology from hardware.

The cost of the next gen has to drop dramatically to justify what it's delivering right now for me to even consider it. Yes, the Wii is trying something different, and Nintendo is to be commended, even if the machine is too expensive considering it has Gamecube-like tech specs with an innovative control scheme and online gaming.

But outside of the Wii, we're getting better graphics and improved online interfaces for more than double the price of the current-gen, and not much else. Plus we're getting software with a retail price $10 higher than the last gen, which adds up in the long run.

        Sorry, count me out.

        Take care,
        PK

I agree I was ready to run out and buy a WII then I figured out the cost in my head and it wasnt much of a deal at all.

Plus dont forget your gonna need a memory card which is $30. The WII should of came in at $199 with two controllers and WII sports.

You don't need a memory card, the Wii has 512MB of on board flash memory.

I hear ya, you do raise some very good points. I think the controller concept/interactivity is really cool, but I worry that I may not like it. There are no interactive demo units around either to try this thing which is really kind of interesting.

I've been getting second thoughts also about the Wii the last few days. Now that I also saw the 32" Westinghouse LCD for $499 on Black Friday at Best Buy, I'm almost tempted to drop the money on that as I have a guy at work maybe willing to buy my CRT HDTV that I haven't been too happy with.

Zelda and Trauma Center are the only 2 games right now that would have me interested. I'm glad that Extreme has reminded us that we don't need memory cards yet for the system as there is the 512 flash memory. I just wish you were able to save your Cube games to the flash memory or the SD Card. It kind of makes you have to buy extra accessories to enjoy the BC capabilities. One thing that turned me off during the Gamespot video had to do with the broken controller, but that could have been a fluke. I am really impressed with what I have seen from Zelda.

I also came back from Best Buy and was looking at the final counts for PS3 and Wii. The PS3 counts are looking really bad. The Best Buy's in my area are getting an average of 25 units with 40 being the most. Even the Best Buy that is doing a Midnight launch on Thursday is getting about 45 at the most.

With the Wii, those that want one, I suggest going to Best Buy. 2 of the Best Buy's by me are getting 165 units, and the other 2 Best Buys are getting 135 units. There alone were looking at 600 available units at Best Buy alone in my area. Figure Walmart and Target are to get a nice chunk also, so finding one on launch might not be so bad afterall.

My Pop has the 32-inch Westinghouse. It's a nice HD set and a steal at that price.

Not the same model as your Dad has PK.... this one is a lower made TV, from reading people over at AVS. Your Dad probably has the 32W6...this is the W3213 (while being a higher model number you'd think it would be better). From reading over there, it's not that great of a set, but for me, it would be great for the bedroom.

                      PK,
I saw it running at Best Buy and the picture quality looked amazing.

                      Extreme,
do you have a link from AVS so I can do some reading up on people's opinions for this TV? What is the refresh rate that LCD's should have for gaming? I think that this one from what I read would be fine.

My dad didn't get the 6, as he's had it for a while. It's a lower number, possibly the 3? He got it from Crutchfield about a year or so ago for $899 with free shipping.

My brother has the 6. He likes it.

How much do you guys think I can get for my used Gamecube plus 2 controllers, and a couple of memory cards? I wouldn't be selling the memory cards if the saves are transferrable to the Wii. I have a ton of games, but since the Wii would be backwards compatible, I don't think I'd sell those. I'd also keep my Wavebird.

I know I'm looking at like 50 bucks max, but if that helps pay for a game or something, that might help me in my decision on when to get my Wii.
