A little discouraged with the grahics issue that you mentioned

I did'nt see that walkthrough video last night when I was downloading some stuff off the marketplace.

At any rate, keep the impressions coming

It takes us almost an hour and a half just to complete the training, but it's absolutely crucial to get the most out of the game. We're left a little concerned that this heavy training session will put many impatient gamers off, which would be a shame....

As I said to Sully yesterday, I predict this game will flop on XBL because its depth and pacing will put off the normal run-n-gunners among us. Which means that almost nobody from OS will play it.

To those who've been online with the MP demo, how's the lag? That's my primary concern with the game, since it's doing a lot of object rendering for the larger scale battles and they'll need some pretty staunch netcode to pull that off without lag.

The SoT vid was also available over at IGN, for anyone wants who wants to have the demo up while watching it.

Gotta agree, this game could be quickly falling off the buy list for a couple of reasons. One, I don't know if I'm patient enough to care about a 90 minute tutorial, and then remember everything 3 days later. Two, I can't see others also going through it either, or it staying big for long, meaning it's a single player game essentially.

                I'll try the demo tonight.

....which is a shame, because I think the game looks awesome and has a lot of potential. But it just doesn't cater to the MTV "quick cuts" generation.

It's funny how there's a big thread about the multiplayer emphasis in gaming these days leading to games having no depth. Someone releases a deep multiplayer game unlike any other on the system right now, and it falls off people's buy lists because it's too deep.

                    Ok....

I think the problem is a game that requires 90 minutes of play time just to learn to play it, is a little daunting to a lot of people. I know it is to me. I don't mind tutorial's, or what not, but I've never seen a tutorial be that long. I've been able to hop into RTS' faster than that.

Almost sounds like the game got too big for them.

If the game play is good I don't mind the learning curve. I am bothered about the mention of the graphics being not up to the screenshots. How off are they? Do you guys find that sometimes the demos do not look as good as the full version?

                          Re: Battlestations Midway

Ok, first off, I'll agree about the tutorials. If you want to enjoy this, you have got to learn what's going on. I'm going to take a look at the link IGN has later this afternoon.

There's a lot to learn here, but based on what I've played, I'll give my impressions.

Communication will be key. I'm trying to talk to my teamates and they aren't replying. All I keep hearing is, "I'm so F'n confused." However, it's going to be crucial to talk to eachother.

I launched my planes from the carrier (you don't control the plane during launch, you take it right when you leave the carrier). You are basicly controling a fleet of 3. What I mean by that is you are the center plane and where you move the other two follow. You can also give orders by pressing x. If your plane goes down you can switch to the next plane. From the carrier, I launched 3 fleets of 3 and I can switch to all 3 fleets. I'm still learning, but I was able to launch a bomb and hit a destroyer. You can also go back to your carrier and fire from there against any nearby enemies. If you are my enemy, you will see three planes with "dQbell" over them (signifying that I'm in control of them).

The map is crucial. I'm not sure about how to use it, but you can direct everything from there. I think the overall goal will be to arrange your strategy from the map and then control your ship/plane if you so choose.

Graphics are pretty good. Ships show damage and smoke once you hit them. I think the planes look nice too. They aren't blocky or jaggy, and they have a nice motion blur going on. To me, what's important is that it looks good with all this stuff going on, and it does. There is a ton of stuff going on, over a large area. I found myself not worried about the graphics...I was immediately concerned about am I placed correctly, is my fleet in the right position to accomplish the objective. The graphics don't get in the way, but they aren't the highpoint of the game.

As far as lag goes, I haven't noticed any at all. Everything runs rather smooth without any hiccups or planes/ships shifting around.

Right now it's hard to get a handle on things because I'm trying to understand what exactly is going on. I'm going to check out the tutorial and go from there.

If you like slow, patient strategy, this game is for you. What I really want to work with is the subs. Should be fun. I'll try and get some more time with it later and post some more info.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

I do agree that most demos don't look as good as the final version. As for the graphics in BSM, it's not fair for me to judge them so early because I only played as a ship, leaving everything else at a far distance. I didn't come away impressed, but I'd like to get some playing time with a plane.
