And Rodster, I appreciate the kind words. I admit for everyone to read that I am a Sony fan. But I am not so blind by Sony that I can't see the forrest for the trees. I think that Microsoft has done a hell of a job with their consoles. Especially with the 360. I just prefer Sony's first party games to Microsoft I guess. I love SOCOM and Metal Gear. Thats not to say that in the back of my mind, I am not thinking of getting a 360. Its hard seeing the "second" round of games on the 360 and not find myself giddy.

    and peace
Yeah the second round of 360 games are incredible looking. But really first party games are important as well. Up until I found out Sony removed the Rumble feature from the controller I was all set to buy a PS3.

Gran Turismo, Formula One '06, DMC4 yeah man those titles sold me on buying a PS3. Socom and MGS4 should rock as well.

The different versions that I am speaking of are not the 20GB and 60GB at launch but rather the different versions that Sony may come out with during the PS3 life cycle. (The above link will show what in the heck I am talking about)
It kind of confirms what I was talking about before where Sony might create multiple sku's down the road.

Like I stated earlier, they did it for the PS2, so why not the PS3?

        Could be very interesting.

no. Sony made different versions of the PS2 during its life cycle. Progressive scan, slim, one with network adaptor, and so on. That is what Sony is rumoring to be doing with the PS3. They may make different versions of the PS3 during its life cycle, much like a computer.

It has nothing to do with the 2 sku's.

Unless the games are substantially better does any of this really matter.

              15 Games at launch

Depends. If they make a version that is somewhat like the $500 version but upgradable then it does matter.

The hardware under the hood is the same for all the versions including the $500 and $600 versions coming at launch. Its the add ons and "accessories" that are different.

I dont care 5 or 6 hundred. I wont be buying a console at a price like that. Kuratagi can bend you over and grease you up, and go for a grand slam, but I personally think he's insane

                      for the continued doubters

One of the latest PlayStation 3 rumors to make the rounds over the past couple of days was in regard to "free" online gameplay, or the apparent lack thereof. Even though Sony reps at both the Game Developers Conference and the E3 stated otherwise, due to the fact that Sony's E3 conference powerpoint presentation didn't explicitly state the fact, some sites jumped to conclusions. Well it just isn't true.

This morning, SCEA's PR Manager helped to clarify the situation. When asked to confirm whether playing games online via the PlayStation 3 would be free of charge, it was stated, plain and simply, "Please note that online gaming will be free right out of the box". There ya go.

Of course, like Square Enix did with Final Fantasy XI on the PS2, Xbox 360 and PC, a limited amount of publishers may still charge a fee for MMO-style titles.

The upkeep costs of a free online network would scare me if I was a sony investor.

its saying the rumor is that you'll have to pay and states "it just isnt true".

Free is not necessarily better. If the service is free Cheaters will take longer to be dealt with, server problems might take longer to fix, games may have more lag.

games having lag has nothing to do with the Sony servers... as is now, gamers connect to each other while playing a game. For example, if I sign onto EA servers to find someone to play, as soon as we connect to each other, we're not relying on EAs servers for connection, we're connected person to person.

As for charges, Sony can easily make money off of advertisements, charges for downloads (music, demos, etc.). Its not a loss proposition that we're talking about, its simply less on the general consumer.
