Re: ***The All Sony PS3 Price and Features Thread***
Let's try it in Canada....
PS3 = $699.99 + 15% tax = $804.98. Based on the PS2 it'll last 9 months and it'll probably cost $300 to get it fixed so you'll want to get that extended warranty adding 60$-80$ more. $89.44 per month for 9 months without warranty.
360 = $499.99 + 15% tax = $574.98
Live = $59.98 + 15% tax = $68.97
$574.98 + $68.97 = $643.95 It'll only last 5 months but it's free to get fixed and should at least last 6 more. $58.54 per month over 11 months but to be fair over 9 months it's $80.49 also without warnarty.
I only payed $419.20 for mine and hate online play so for me it's $46.57 per month if it only lasts 9 total.
On a side note if you had $804.98 you could probably get the 360 without Live and Wii for that price because you're left with $230 after the 360.Comment

Re: ***The All Sony PS3 Price and Features Thread***
Very good point. For me, I have the 360 which I bought on launch and am very satisifed with it. When you factor that I have a family, wife and 3 kids I need to cutdown on my gaming habits. Like you said, by the time your done you could be spending 750+ after games and accessories with the system. I was tempted for the PS3, I'll have to wait.Originally posted by Leahmic223The biggest problem with the PS3 is..."what makes it different than the 360." Yeah the games look sharp but Bungie has recently stated that the Halo Trailer is pretty much what the graphics will look like in real-time.
Also for that person that said this should be no problem for the grown-up crowd...I disagree. I think it is a bigger problem for the 30+ yr old gamers.
I mean, I am not of that age and do not have the reponsibility yet, but that $750+ (yup including everything you have to buy on the first day.) could go a long way in...

While all a teenager has to do is get a job, get abiout 100+ every week, pre-order it, and pay it off before release date. They do not have to worry about Car Payments, mortgage, and other things that the money for a PS3 could be used for.Comment

Re: ***The All Sony PS3 Price and Features Thread***
The reliability of the PS3 is going to be very important because if it breaks and Sony is unwilling to fix it, you will spend another $599.99 plus sales tax to replace it. Will Sony include a warrenty with the PS3? This could become very expensive if the launch PS3 hardware is problem prone. There were people who had problems with the XBOX 360 also but it is not as expensive.Comment

Re: ***The All Sony PS3 Price and Features Thread***
For everyone that is stating that they aren't getting a PS3 because they are satisfied with their 360 remember something, there are quite a few, and I mean quite a few gamers that don't have a 360 because they either:
1) couldn't find one
2) have been saving up
3) waited to see what the PS3 had in store
4) simply didn't want one
I understand that there may not be enough in the PS3 to warrant spending another $600 plus games for a next gen system when you have a 360, but there are still people without a next gen console that will want a PS3.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

true...but i challenge that the 600 dollar price tag will be a big detractor to the casual gamer who was waiting to decide...for people who knew they'd get a PS3 no matter what, no biggie. I mean I love to throw my money to the games companies any chance I get, but if I'm weary of that expensive of a price, then what's Johnny Public who's just casually into gaming going to think?Originally posted by countryboyFor everyone that is stating that they aren't getting a PS3 because they are satisfied with their 360 remember something, there are quite a few, and I mean quite a few gamers that don't have a 360 because they either:

Re: ***The All Sony PS3 Price and Features Thread***
I doubt that Sony would go that route. If anything buy a PS3 from Best Buy and get their 2 warranty. If it breaks, Best Buy has to give you a NEW one. To hell with sending your broken PS3 or 360 in and having them send you a refurbished one.Originally posted by LIGHTNINGThe reliability of the PS3 is going to be very important because if it breaks and Sony is unwilling to fix it, you will spend another $599.99 plus sales tax to replace it. Re: ***The All Sony PS3 Price and Features Thread***
That $500 version is useles, why even offer it?
Blu-Ray with no HDMI = WTF?
The $600 version will be snatched up by the hardcore fans at launch, but once the dust settles and the casual gamers go shopping for a console purchase, i don't think the PS3 will be #1 on their list. All those that were waiting around before any next-gen console purchase just had their decision made that much easier by Sony.
The NA and EU markets are up for the taking in 2007.Comment

I agree 100%
My point is that people are seemingly writing off the PS3 and Sony merely because of the price. But the fact of the matter is, those of us with common sense knew that the price was probably going to be between $500-600. I am not shocked by the price as I expected to need around $800 to buy the PS3, an extra controller, and a couple of games at launch.
I don't know what Johnny Public will decide. Heck, he may be enticed to buy a PS3 for all I know because of the blu-ray technology. If we are basing everything off price, then ol' Johnny will probably pick up the Wii because its going to retail for less than $300.
There are more Sony fans here in North America than most want to believe. (at least in my neck of the woods)Trust me, I see them everyday.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Yes it is.
Hopefully I'll have a few more horses come in by November so that I can purchase one.
