Virtua Tennis ruled! I had 4 controllers and my friends and I (including the wives/girlfriends) would have some epic 2-on-2 battles. Loved that game.

I also really enjoyed Starlancer. I even played online a few times.
And then of course there was Shemmue, Resident Evil Code: Veronica, Dead or Alive and NHL2K2 - perhaps one of the finest hockey games ever created.

    Loved the Dreamcast.
I think if EA had gotten more involved with this system, it would have had a chance.

Powerstone? Not sure I remember swinging around on poles, though....you sure you aren't talking about that time you went to the strip club and got into a fight with the bouncers?

Agree on NHL2K2. I can't believe they couldn't make the leap to the 360/PS3 era in better style...

Re: EA's involvement, if that had been the case, there probably wouldn't be any SegaSports/2K Sports in existence. My understanding is that Sega created that development house specifically to deal with the lack of EA support for the system.

Anyway, the best thing about the Dreamcast for me was that it was the first time I remember thinking "man, videogames have really made the leap into the next generation". Honestly, I haven't really been that blown away by the leap between generations since that time. Playing "Crazy Taxi" and "Soul Caliber" on DC was like a revelation at the time; honestly, some of those games STILL look good to this day. I'm glad I still have mine, stashed away somewhere, hopefully still working like new...

Does anyone remember a boxing game advertised for the Dreamcast?
If I can remember right, it showed a screenshot of a white guy in green shorts vs someone else.
        Full 3D models.

There wasn't a lot of information, but I believe the game was going to use the controller VMU to allow a user to train the fighter while away from the game.

It was one of the main reasons I bought a Dreamcast.

Sadly, the game never came to fruition.

Wish I had a copy of that magazine still.

Ready 2 Rumble was sure a fun boxing type game, especially for a launch title.

Yeah, that was a fun game for sure. But I think Money99 is talking about a different game (that was never released). Sounds like it was going to be cool.

Re: Dreamcast would have turned seven this year

There's an article from the BBC that broke the story about Sega discontinuing the Dreamcast back on January 24, 2001, almost 13 years to the date. Already losing money and knowing that Microsoft was soon to launch XBox, they decided to focus solely on software and sell to both Microsoft and Sony instead.

Also in a 2007 interview with Gamasutra's Brandon Sheffield, he asked EA's CCO William "Bing" Gordon, a question <b>"You keep mentioning the Sega Genesis, and I felt it was a shame that EA ended up not supporting the Dreamcast."</b>
WG: We lost confidence in Sega. With the Dreamcast, we told them two things: you should be an in-the-box online system, and you should use a 3D chip that we understand. They said, "We can't afford to be online, and we'll get back to you on the 3D chip." They ended up using an unusual, non-industry standard, not well-supported chip. It was something that nobody in EA had ever touched.

They knew we had no experience with it and no belief in it. Then with online, they said "no," then they said "maybe," then they said "no." They wobbled all over the place, and we lost confidence in them. At the same time, we knew that the PS2 was coming. I loved the Genesis. The Genesis was EA's first video game system that we supported, and you always remember your first.
A shame, however XBox did pick up what Sega failed to do and ran with it successfully.
