Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
I just downloaded the demo couple nights ago. WOW......the voice acting, motion capture of the characters movements just are done soooo top notch. The graphics are quite impressive also. I stood by the waterfall, some of the best water effects ever. I think even better than Bioshock.
I read that the enemies tend to take to many rounds. I did not notice this, I was downing the enemy in 2-3 shots. Even some in 1 with a well placed head shot.
All in all very impressed with the Demo. My girlfriend HATES video games but she even sat and watched. The opening cut scene had her drawn in lol.Last edited by Phobia; 12-18-2008, 10:48 AM.Comment

Head shots will help save ammo. Most enemies take around 3 shots to bring down and some seem harder but I don't mind since Drake can take quite a few and heal up as you take cover. As you play you will find upgraded weapons that can take guys out in one shot. The shotgun is great that way although it's slow to reload and has limited range.
Overall the difficulty level on Normal is great for an average gamer like me.Comment

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
I've only played the demo... are there different control variations to be able to aim with the left analog stick (not lefty, but turning with the left stick, aiming up/down with the right stick). Makes it hard for me to aim the other way because I'm simply not used to it.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I never really looked into a different control scheme but I don't think so. You will get used to it and it works well. I thought aiming with the right stick was fairly standard in most games?Comment

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
See, here's the thing... I've been gaming since Atari (as like a 3 year old), and when PS2 came out was when I was first getting used to using an analog stick, and even the N64 only had one stick, which I used with my left hand, so whenever I would play GoldenEye I would "use the left stick." Most all FPS games, up until Half-Life for PS2, were left-stick turning. In driving games, it's left-stick turning. In snowboarding, 3PS, even in Home... left-stick turning. It's just natural that way. The SOCOM came and I had to make a switch to the Scout preset as well, which was fine.
GTA has left-stick turning, but right-stick aiming. I don't know why somebody would prefer having to switch the way that you turn your player's body on the spot like that. In general, I think my biggest problem is that my turning left and right ends up interfering with my up/down position because I'm just not that good at coordinating directly left and right. That way, if I accidentally mess up, I'll end up only strafing a little bit, or moving forward/back. Less things to try and correct, you see. SOCOM: Confrontation only has that preset, and while I was getting used to it (it was feeling more natural), I found that I'm still just not very good at that way. It's like you can get used to driving a stick-shift, but no matter how much you do it you'll still be better with an automatic (whereas people like me just suck at driving automatics... somehow).
I will rue the day that every game only has this as a default. I don't know why they thought it was necessary to make the change, but I guess everybody is getting used to it. However, as you can see, some people are not, and it was loud enough for the makers of SOCOM to hear. That makes me happy.
I played the demo and I found myself dying a lot, simply because my aiming with the right stick is absolutely dreadful. Only time will tell when I can find out how "ambidextrous" I can be with all of this.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
I can understand your frustration with controls. I hated the sprint button in EA's football games being moved to the R2 button. I thought the control scheme was fine. In '08 you could customize the controls and I did. But in '09 they hard coded some buttons making it impossible to go back to the old way. I was fairly annoyed but over time I got used to it. The Bourne game uses a similar mechanic.
I usually only play sports games and this was the first non sports title I played in a LONG time. I loved it and I didn't have any problems so you more experienced guys should be able to handle it (or just select easy difficulty level). :wink:Comment

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
So I borrowed this from my friend and have been playing it over the break, and thus far I'm on Chapter 21. How many chapters are there?
I must say, I'm hooked. Only turnoffs are 30 FPS (or something), right-stick aiming, and those freakin' scary zombie things, holy crap!
Great game, though.
