Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
yeah it's kinda rediculous how many bullets a pirate can take in the chest and still keep firing at you. Headshots are most definetly your friend in this game!
I may be wrong but it did seem like the bad guys died quicker in the footage of Drake's 2. I'd prefer it if it was more realistic and they (and Drake) both died more quickly from gun shots."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
I'm 4 years late, but I just beat the game tonight.
Amazing, amazing experience. The graphics, story, cutscenes, characters, dialogue, controls and gameplay in general were all top of the line, AAA-material. It was almost like Naughty Dog took all these great aspects from other solid games and made a super-baby out of it (Gears' cover system, Tomb Raider's platforming, God of War's quick-time button interactions, etc.)
It's been said a ton throughout this thread (I just read through all of it) but the game really did feel like you were playing through a blockbuster movie. The pacing was great and I never felt bored at any moment. I was always interested in what was coming up next. There were times it took me a little while to figure out how to do a puzzle or how to navigate through a certain section, but once I did figure it out it was usually one of those "Ohhhh" moments, where it felt like you should have known that was the way to do it off the bat and it was more your fault for not noticing than it was the game being difficult. I also liked all 3 of the main characters in Nathan, Elena () and Sully. They all had good personalities and were interesting, which is pretty rare in most games IMO, especially since I just finished Killzone 3 a few days ago and I felt that story and their characters were pretty weak.
As for gameplay, I can agree it was a minor annoyance that it takes a decent amount of bullets to kill enemies, but for the most part it was usually 1 headshot/3 regular shots=dead and I was okay with that since that's been the case for a lot of action/shooting games in the past. There were enemies later in the game that took a ton of bullets to down, but again, it's nothing I haven't seen in past games (for better or worse). Also speaking of shooting, I really liked that ammo wasn't just an afterthought. There were tons of times where I was short on ammo with multiple enemies around and I had to make a plan of attack to stay alive while being short on bullets. That was one of my favorite aspects of the gameplay.
My one negative for the game was what went down around the final act of the story.SpoilerI wasn't that big a fan of "The Descendants" that suddenly appeared because up until that point, you were fighting against real people. To me it just had that feel that the first True Crime game had where those dragons appeared and you were like "Where the **** did this come from?". In the end it wasn't that big of a deal and within the story it did make sense, I guess. Also, the final boss was ridiculous IMO. After learning he had a pattern of 4 shots with the last being a delayed shot, I was okay with that. But when you get to the last section of the battle on the helipad, that's where I was annoyed. You're left standing there, having to suddenly realize you have to take cover behind the first set of boxes in front of you, or else in about 2 seconds you're instantly dead. Also, when you get to the fist-fight sequence and you knock his gun out, only for him to kick you down and run to it, it cuts back in-game and if you waste a second realizing you have to run at him and attack him, you're dead there too. Once you understand that then it wasn't that difficult, but I was just turned off by the fact there was almost literally no room for error.
But anyways, obviously the amount of typing I've done here shows how much I enjoyed the game. It just further confirmed that my purchase of a PS3 was a great one and I can't wait to play the sequel in the next few weeks, especially considering all the amazing reviews I heard last year when I was still on the 360.Last edited by BlueNGold; 03-23-2011, 04:54 AM.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
Yeah, I can't wait. I read through the UC2 thread (up until the first impressions posts) and my jaw dropped watching the E3 trailer. I never followed the game that closely since I was on the other side of the fence, but man...I can't believe that a game that's 4 years old and is still one of the best games I've ever seen graphically was improved that much.
Also a side note I forgot to mention was that probably 70% of the game was played with my 4 year old cousin sitting on my lap playing it with me. I think she was more into it than I was. No ponies and Barbies for her.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

I still remember my wife asking him what he was doing when he first did it and him yelling "I'm playing Uncharted mommy!!!" like it was the coolest thing in the world.
You're definitely in for a treat with 2, and I can't wait for #3.Comment

Ha! My son (who was 3 when I finally played it) LOVES the Uncharted series. After sitting with me a lot while I played through the first, he was running around the house trying to jump on and off of things wanting me to be a bad guy to shoot so he could "play Uncharted."

It's a pretty good sign of how great of a job Naughty Dog did with the controls and gameplay that it's such an amazing game and looks incredibly realistic, but at the same it's pretty simple to pick up and play.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
Yeah, my sister and her friend loved watching me play the first one. I was in school when I got the second one, so she never really watched me play it when I first got it and she kind of lost interest in it when I finally was playing it. One of those teeny, "You're playing that game?" things, like she might secretly be interested but hides it.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
I'm in the same boat as you as I just finished the first one as I borrowed it from somone. I bought the 2nd one as on a buy 2 get 1 free deal just haven't started it yet. I was wanting to finish Killzone 3 (i agree weak story) and Heavy Rain before i started the second one. The good thing is uncharted 3 is right around the corner.
I didn't the like the puzzles in this game that was my only complant

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3)
i think sony should just include this game with $399 system. it would really entice people, especially casual/new gamers, to pick up more games or at the very least sell more of the 320gb systems.
i just let my friend who just recently got a ps3 borrow this game. needless to say he was blown away. he is already near the end of part 2."on hoping there is a PSN flash sale before Valentine's Day"
Man there are no flashers... now what are we going to do for vd
yea but will they take psn cards
