I'm still excited about this game.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Plus they are basing all this stuff off of a demo vs. the full version.

Off topic, but how was that Bourne game. I've been wanting to check it out,but it's been rented and doesn't appear to be coming back.

                TeamXbox Impressions

“Get it right, or be banished for eternity,” is the credo by which those dabbling in the “Star Wars” universe should live. Take the (to borrow from Mr. Smith) “holiest of holies” and eff it up, and prepare a legion of cos-playing geeks to show up at your company’s funeral.

Lucas lucked out a bit in the video-game industry a few years back. LucasArts called upon outsiders to develop “Star Wars”-universe products; fortunately, it worked out rather well, with strong titles such as Knights of the Old Republic and Battlefront. This could have been as disastrous as it was when Marvel didn’t put out its own movies—and look how that has changed things for the better now—but the strength of BioWare/Pandemic and the intellectual property pulled it all through.

We feel much more at ease that LucasArts is handling Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from start to finish. Sure, a stout, outside partner could have taken such a robust project right through the lane and jammed it on Trekkies’ heads, but it makes much more sense that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is being worked from the inside. Need an artwork approval? We’re pretty sure George is on Line 1…

You’ll soon get to experience firsthand exactly how well the internal developing/publishing of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has paid off—on September 16, to be exact. But let’s say you’re man enough to admit that the “Star Wars” universe isn’t your huckleberry, and you need more proof than just videos and screenshots that F.U. (we personally think that the abbreviation is a good enough reason to buy) will be a solid, third-person action game regardless of its storied IP. Sniff, sniff. Do you smell that? Why, yes…it’s saber-fried Rebel, courtesy of a Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Xbox Live demo.

We had a chance to play the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo early. It’s a small but oh-so-flavorful taste of what this game is all about. On the IP side, the good news is that Force Unleashed is much more tied into the cinematic “Star Wars” universe than the KotOR titles. Sure, you’ll be playing as an evil apprentice that bears little resemblance to Hayden Christensen, but surrounding the Vader-in-training is…well, Vader and his usual gang of Imperial idiots. And it’s not just SW universe characters that make Star Wars: The Force Unleashed enticing from a content and story standpoint. Ships, walkers, weapons, environments, Williams-friendly arrangements and lore band together with iconic SW figures in order to create a must-have for the avid, ep-one-to-six fan.

LucasArts already has the “Star Wars”’ nut’s money in hand in the form of pre-orders, of course. But the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo points out that this action game can stand on its own without neon sabers and Jimmy Smits; that is, as long as a ’roided-up version of Psi-Ops tickles your fancy.

Since LucasArts’ mission on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was to allow users to experience the power of The Force via the player character, naturally the control set revolves around such supernatural abilities. One of the most important of these powers—and the one that shows off Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’s incredible tech the best—is Force Grip. The demo lets you practice this a bit on panes of glass and a few Stormtroopers, but it’s intuitive enough that training isn’t necessary. Simply point at an object, grip it with the right trigger and move it around with the left and right sticks. It’s all about knowing the principles of physics from there on out—for instance, building the a of an object’s m so that it has more…ahem, force when it hits something else.

Separate buttons for Force Lightning, Force Push and Force Dash join Force Grip for a well-rounded inventory of Dark Side moves that work in conjunction with the Apprentice’s natural athletic and saber abilities. This Jedi is fleet of foot, not to mention a natural leaper with the ability to double jump nearly out of this intriguing demo. This kind of dexterity comes in handy when wielding a light saber—a tool with which the apprentice is obviously very familiar. A simple press of the X button will perform a saber attack, but you’ll want to work on the familiar three-button, third-person action-game combo technique to maximize the destructive powers of the apprentice’s electric blade. These special saber swings are parlayed with the various Force moves to create both visually appealing and super-destructive results. For instance, Force Grip can be used to throw the saber like a boomerang, or Force Lightning can be harnessed through the blade for a highly-charged finisher.

The sheer power of the apprentice’s moves, working in conjunction with NaturalMotion’s Euphoria engine, make this demo the biggest blast since Crackdown’s. It really feels like playing God…or playing Jedi, depending on who or what you choose to worship. A Force energy meter keeps Star Wars: The Force Unleashed moving (users would simply play in the destructive sandbox all day if the apprentice’s powers were limitless) and less like a tech demo, while excellent visuals and sound effects help create the proper ambiance for a character with so much internal power.

The Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a fun romp for sure. Give it a try, if for nothing else but to throw baddies around with the wave of a hand. Toss one Stormtrooper and you’ll be hooked. We swear. Right hand to Lucas.

I just loved the power that the apprentice had. Being able to throw around almost everything and being a killing machine was really fun. It's pretty long for a demo so you get to try out some combos and try out different ways of killing stormtroppers. Using force push to destroy everything around me was my favorite part. At one point I charged up the force push and the entire room I was in pretty much exploded. Just a really fun demo.

I'm really looking forward to the outdoor levels and fighting the Jedi in the full game.

Excellent, thanks. Did the game feel too easy with the force powers?

It was a little easy but that's without having to go against any bosses or really powerful characters. There are alot of stormtroppers though so it could get challenging but it wasn't too bad for me.

I played through on a higher difficulty that I didn't see the first time and it's actually harder than I thought. I didn't die at all the first time but I've died a few times now.
