Yea I think people don't give VATS the credit it deserves. There is a ton of thought that can go into the combat.

Targeting a nade on a raiders belt is a perfect example.

Totally agree. I am just exporing, and really have not done much else. I have about 7 hours just exploring, learning the little nuances, and having a greta time with it. It would help if there 36 hours in a day, or I needed no sleep.

I'm sort of with you. I've only been doing the sidequests from Megaton and exploring the map for fast travel purposes.

I've had a cold for two weeks, partially because I haven't slept more than 5 hours since this game came out.

              I still haven't found Dogmeat
When I fire this baby up later, that's going to be my next order of business.
Stay alive long enough to get out of Dupont Station........get to Megaton....figure out a way to get to an armory or someplace I can trade everything I've been hauling....(right now I'm storing everything in Lucas' house....the Kid doesn't seem to mind) and then pick up some AMMO! Holy crap I've never been so obsessed about conserving ammo in any game before this one.
I actually bring up the PipBoy and put on the Spiked Knuckles I got(11 damage!) from a Raider to kill Feral Ghouls instead of wasting ammo on them.
In one section I saw two ferals.....thought I would waste em barehanded, only to start getting whacked on.....I'm thinking "what the heck"?.....and realized that a beefed up Mutant(forgot what they are called really) is beating me pretty badly with one of those sledges. Pulled out the old Flamethrower(found a nice stash of "napalm" :wink and unloaded on him.
I love the assault rifle...but I have maybe 18 rounds left.
I wind up having to use the Laser Pistol(hate it )....because I have plenty of ammo for that.
I save the Flamethrower for when I can sneak up on multiples(who are close together) and can deal some major "group damage".

I think this one is GOTY.

the main quest is very short and not difficult its possible trust me.

Youd be surprised if i told you how close you are to beating it after only doing 5-6 or main quests.

Don't think this is a spoiler, since I won't say where to get the schematics, but has anyone else made the Shishkebob? It's a crazy powerful flaming sword type deal. I took out one of those Yai Gao things with two hits in VATS using the Shishkebob, as opposed to wasting a load of ammunition.

Here's a definite spoiler about a hidden "location":

I know it seems like I'm harping on your comments. I'm not and I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the game.....but!.....
Bethesda had made it known and quite clear that the game does end and you can't continue on. I even think it was made mention of it somewhere in this thread with the quote from the Bethesda guy . I actually agree with you and wish they would have just let you roam around and continue to explore.
I don't like to hear that the ending sucks though. Companies should spend a little more time on the "payoff" if people invest time in the game.
Ehh...I'll just be happy with the gameplay.
Well I missed that as i didnt follow development of game as closely as others i guess. I thought the point of a non linear open world game was that you arent done when you beat it (even a linear game like GTA doesnt stop you from doing that). When another open world game comes out i guess ill find out if they let you play after main quest.

The gameplay is great and its a shame that Bethesda put very minimal effort into the main quest arc and its story. I understand that the selling point of an open world game is that you can do anything and go anywhere, but there has to be a worthwhile main quest and story to go with it.

With the exception of one cinematic combat quest (which isnt all that great either because it requires pretty much no effort on the player's part) the entire main quest feels like a long side quest.

Someone has already pmed me asking when they should stop the main quest to go do other things and ill gladly answer everyone who does with either spoilers or no spoilers whatever you want.

I just restarted to test something out - and I went 1 PER and CHA, and lowered END and STR to 4, and I put AGI, LUCK, and INT all at 10. Went to the school near the vault and was pretty much two shotting everything, and getting tons of crits.
I did a somewhat even character. I put points in INT, CHA (this actually has paid off in a few quests where I've been able to talk my way out of a fight or increase a quest reward), PER (higher perceptions means the enemies show up on your hud from further away), and AGI (higher agility = more VATS points).

Since I'm low STR, the strong back perk is a must to let me carry another 50 pounds. I've also raised a few stats by twice taking the perk that lets you raise special stats.

After I beat the game with this character, I think I'll go back and try a strength machine and nerf CHA to next to nothing.

That's high praise in my book. I adored Mass Effect. I think I put in 18 hours before I really touched the main story line.

It's the only reason why I regret selling my 360 for a PS3. I just hope Mass Effect 2 comes out for the PS3 as well.

I rank Dead Space and Fallout 3 as the best single player games so far this year

I have a good feeling For multiplayer Left 4 Dead is going to take that for me

The other thing that's making Fallout nice for me is that I have some other games that I'm really enjoying and that are getting good playtime. This way I'm not overdosing on Fallout 3 so that when I do play it I'm enjoying it even more.

I loved Mass Effect also, played through it 3 or 4 times. Haven't beaten Fallout 3 yet, but I'd put it right up there with ME.

If you bring a roleplaying attitude to F3 and take your time and enjoy the atmosphere, you'll love it. If you try to run and gun your way through the game and don't bother with the sidequests or general exploring, you are going to miss a lot of the backstory to the world (example, I found an abandoned newspaper office and spent 10+ minutes just going through their computers reading various news stories about the war) and you'll probably think it's just an average quality game.

I know in the technology building, I read all kinds of cool stuff. The space facts were my favorite.

It had something about 1 mm of this substance would weight as much as 100 tons or something. A bunch of cool facts
