i think non vats shooting works great.....you use the LT to target and RT to fire,.....it works just as good as any shooter

the 3rd person mode is playable, but not as good as 1st person

If you hold the left bumper, you can move the 3rd person cam around and zoom in and out. Useful to look at your character's face, but also useful because the zoom level will stay that way for the 3rd person view. So you can zoom in to a over the shoulder view, or zoom out and see around your character for the 3rd person view.

The game is sick. First off the VATS system for combat is awesome. It's great how you can target certain body parts and the death sequences are insane in slo mo.

non spoiler:

(First encounter i had; very early) I was fighting a raider lady and we were battling. I had this small pistol and she had an assault rifle. I guess i got a good shot cause i hit her in the leg and she says "Screw this sh**" and turns around and runs....i aim and target the back of her head...bam! bam!! she goes down in a heap. Very cool!

Feels very old school of a game like the reviews say. Graphics are not revolutionary but damn good.

Those silly people put aim on L1 and shoot on R1 for PS3 by default,I switched them. Ran out of ammo pretty fast. From what I've played and seen in the vids the female seems to move better than the male but it's still not very good. Be nice if I had any idea where to go after exiting the vault. Ended up in some school,ah well see where this goes.

this game is the freakin shi*! it kinda reminds me of the chronicles of riddick on the xbox with interacting with people i loved that game so much. what a game but i still have resistance 2 and gears of wars 2 next . man its like a dream come true for gamers these next 2 weeks. i got the game for the xbox btw and it looks so amazing! anyone who is on the edge about buying this and isnt sure ur gonna miss out on one of the most amazing games its so different so interesting pick it up!


edit also for pc gamers it kinda reminds me a lot of deus ex also

This game isn't like GTA4 is it? You know everybody freaks out how great it is that you can do a million different things but as I discovered with GTA4 is that the game gets very old very fast because after the first few hours when you are discovering stuff you realize this game is boring after the umpteenth time eluding cops, getting drunk and throwing bricks thru windows.

I just bought into the hype with GTA4 and discovered it was the most overrated game ever made unless your idea of fun is attempting to hit people with clunky controls and trying to drive a car like it's on ice. There was nothing fun about that to me. It was just a series of lame, non-immersive missions that were remedial and bad graphics on top.

So if I hate GTA type games am I gonna hate this too. Some of you are talking about the combat being amazing but how does it compare to GOW or any FPS in terms of actually being fun or are the controls just as clunky like GTA but everybody is overrating it because it's different but not necessarily fun.

i doubt it because unlike gta this game u can change how the story goes

OK but if I get into combat , is it actually fun and is the AI actually smart or is it all about that VATS thing which seems great because it's new but would get boring pretty quickly if that is all their is to the combat especially if the controls are lacking.

It's just that I like games with substance over style and games like GTA4 and MSG4 (sorry guys but the game was a colossal bore and was just one big boring movie with average combat action spaced intermittantly in between endless cut scenes) where it's all style over substance and the game just has no intensity.

I walked out the Vault and I am totally dumbfounded. Have the strategy guide. I can't get any info from anybody because I have no Caps/Money. I don't know what to do
