I am probably going to regret putting so many points into the energy weapons... I never use them..... I thought they would be a lot better than small guns, but I guess not.

Re: Fallout 3
Can anyone comment how much worse the PS3 version looks compared to the 360. I'm not a graphics whore but it will bother me if it's a major downgrade in visuals.
Also, is there anyone here who disliked Oblivion but liked this game?
Are the shooting mechanics similar to other FPS games (RB6:Vegas, CoD4, etc)?"Good music transcends all physical limits, it's more then something you hear, it's something that you feel, when the author, experience, and passion is real" - Murs (And this is for)Comment

Re: Fallout 3
So what's everybody's favorite weapon?
While I like the minigun and the laser rifle, I never have enough ammo for them for any extended period of time. I alway come back to the trusty hunting rifle.
I'd like to try out the build it yourself weapons, but the plans are 800+ caps. Anytime I get a good amount of caps saved up, I always have ammo or stimpacks to buy so I've given up on getting the railway gun anytime soon. Anyone built any of the weapons yet?
For up close and personal work I like the combat shotgun or the sledgehammer.
I've thought about trying to specialize in one or two weapons, but I'm always afraid I'll run out of ammo for a few of them and not have any backup weapons. So I end up taking 4 or 5 weapons with me.Comment

Re: Fallout 3
Count me in this group. Not sure why I couldn't get into Oblivion, but this game drew me in the minute I stepped out of the Vault. As someone else said - they did a great job capturing the sense of being alone in a desolate environment, not being sure where an attack is going to come from next. I tried to circle around the entrance and was attacked by a couple Raiders, then by some mutant dogs and some other type of mutant animal. The graphics are top notch; I loved how day turned to night and the feeling I got of trying to protect myself from whatever dangers. Really like the PiP-boy and the targeting system; everything seems to make sense and wasn't too overbearing. Game actually makes me want to explore/see what's out there versus feeling like I have to. I can see the addictive nature of the gameHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

But guns and an apocalyptic setting sounds far more interesting.
As far as combat goes, is it all dice-rolls behind the curtain as well? So if I shoot someone directly in the face with a shotgun, will they live only because I have a weak shotgun rating and they have a great defense rating? Or is it more realistic?
Mass Effect was all dice rolls behind the scenes I know, but I still think it was done well when it came to direct shots taken by certain guns no matter the skill level of the parties involved.
With all the positive posts and reviews here, I think I'll have to grab this game for myself. It was either this or Dead Space, but that game is sounding more like a great rental than purchase compared to Fallout 3.Comment

While I loved Oblivion and played (play) it a lot, Fallout 3 may have ruined it (Oblivion) for me. At least I finished the main story quest and Knights of the Nine already so Its not all bad.
And as said before ,if you base Fallout 3 on the first hour or so of gameplay you will NOT see the awesomeness that is Fallout 3...Joshua:

Re: Fallout 3
Spoiler
I found a scoped .44 magnum outside of Tenpenny Tower in an abandoned two story house. Been my go to gun ever since, and just plain kicks arse. Only problem is that I can't find any more .44's, so in order to repair it I have to pay a load of caps to shopkeepers. Sucks, but it's worth it.
This is the best next gen experience i've had thus far. There is simply SO much to do that i've all but ignored the main quest so far. I've played over 10 hours and i've hardly explored the northwest corner of the map at all. Gonna get to that later.
Thanks, I found it right where you said.Comment

Re: Fallout 3
Nope, I will tell you what you can do in a spoiler. If you cant figure it out.
SpoilerThere is a terminal where you met the guy that wanted for you to blow the nuke. Hack it and it will have the info you need. Check the bodies and look to see if you find the pass. If not save before you hack so if ya screw up you can just reload.SpoilerWhen I blew it up there was nothing at all left of it. Moria was the only one there and said she was going to Rivet City and still wanted help with her book. I tried to go where the city was but it was just rubble and radition. Did I go the wrong way again? It was just one of those things where I saved before just to see what would happen so it's still there in my actual save.

I didn't really like Oblivion, think this is pretty over rated too but better than Oblivion at least.
Not really,they're pretty VATS reliant.
Would also like to add I've had no freeze ups, framerate problems or glitches on the PS3 version. However I've not been playing it while connected online. The only glitch I've seen is the infinte exp one wich I doubt is PS3 specific and not a bad thing.Last edited by goh; 10-31-2008, 06:15 PM.Comment
