agreed. so a grenade magically dispenses from your pocket and automatically gets set to detonate the second you are about to die. Perhaps i am thinking the 'pull the pin' kind of grenade, but this doesnt sound very realistic to me.

I havent played the beta, so i can very well be talking out of pure ignorance, but that 'last stand' function sounds dumb.

It might be dumb, but at least you won't have the Halo kids squatting on you guys face when he dies.

So this is what they come up with to quell teabagging? I dont do much deathmatch; I am mostly into team based gametypes, so i personally never seen this happen when you have a bunch of teamates around.

YMMV i guess. Just find it an odd way of taking care of those kind of players.

The last stand was alright. I dumped it fast once I unlocked better things to use.

But when people used it, it didn't bother me. I just put a bullet in between their eyes.

            Here, Here !!!

I was killed more than a few times by people using the Last Stand perk. I eventually started riddling the dying carcasses of all my victims with extra bullets just to make sure that they stopped breathing

              CoD4 single-player only 4-6 hours

Category: Industry, Posted: 10/23/2007 at 12:00PM by Sean Pincombe, GN Staff Writer

Call of Duty 4 is nearly upon us and reviews of the game are slowly beginning to appear with some very interesting revelations pertaining to the single-player portion of the game.
OXM UK reviewed the game in their December issue, and cited a short single-player campaign as one of the main downfalls of the title, going on to say that the game only takes "...five to six hours on Normal difficulty."

Now while this may sound worrying at first, one has to remember that the Call of Duty games have always had extremely strong multiplayer to go with the single-player component, so you won't be spending your hard earned cash on five to six hours of gameplay.

The multiplayer aspect gives the opportunity for an unlimited number of playing hours, so as long as Infinity Ward have nailed the multiplayer, there's no need to worry.

Still though, a campaign that only lasts five to six hours will be dissapointing for people like myself who enjoy a good, long single-player experience. Hopefully the game will have a high replayablilty value so gamers won't get bored too quickly and not play it in favour of the multiplayer.

This does of course raise an interesting question: Would you rather play a shorter game that has a higher level of polish or a longer game that entertains you for a longer period of time?

This is a major disappointed. At least my thoughts on this being a rental only have been confirmed. The multiplayer BETA didn't appeal to me, but I figured the single player would be epic. It seems like there have been a number of shorter single player games. Its reason such as this that I enjoyed Bioshock so much.

Re: Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Damn that is short. That's gotta be the shortest COD to date. If there are intense long battles, then it'll probably be ok. But the MP is the main reason for me to get this game.

As for last stands, I think its fine. It makes you shoot extra times to make sure your enemy is dead so that they don't have a chance to last stand you. If you shoot till they aren't moving anymore then they don't have a chance to pull out their pistol. If not you just leave the area and he will die anyway in 5 or 7 seconds. I did talk to my other friends, and they remember it if you get a head shot or get blown away by a shotgun that you don't get a last stand but they could be wrong.

I just have a problem with dropping a grenade right after someone shoots you behind the head. If anything it should be like a last stand and the player would have the action of throwing a grenade from the ground or press a button and it will release it for you then. The enemy should be able to take you out before you have a chance to do that.

If it can be beat in that short a time, then it's a rental for me.

I'm usually really slow at completing single player games of any variety, so this shouldn't be a problem for me.

Re: Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Suffering from withdrawal since the end of the beta, I went back and played some COD2 recently. Hopefully, if COD4's SP is similar, the 5 hour length on normal isn't too much of a negative. The COD2 normal campaign could be Ramboed through for most of the missions. Put it on the highest Veteran difficulty and the play style and time required changed dramatically.

Echoing what Rockin said, Last Stand is fine, not particularly annoying or overused. The guy who ends up on his back with his pistol 20 times a game very likely has slow/poor aim anyways, and now all he has is a pistol and a handful of seconds. Skilled players can be deadly with LS, but they probably are only going to die 5-10 times a game. By the end of the beta, most players were blasting corpses to be safe.
Martyrdom was slightly annoying in Vacant, but most of the maps aren't going to be as congested, so avoiding frag death should be easy. Plus the dropped grenade has its full delay, so you do have a chance to pick up and throwback if you killed the guy from very close range.

My guess is that as players get better, they will tend to favor perks (steady aim, deep impact etc.) that help them win battles and live, rather than ones that might help them break even after dying. Rarely saw Last Stand near the end of the beta, Martyrdom was pretty common, but that was probably because it was only unlockable in the last 3 days.
