Man online multiplayer is gonna suck in this. I don't play online so don't have to worry about it anyway.

I'm not sure if I should get the CE or not. The stuff isn't useful at all to me but I love that case. Splinter Cell isn't exactly one of the more artistic series.

If you're not going to play it why are you complaining about it?

What's the deal with online multiplayer and why will it suck?

Is the MP going to be like the past few games? Those were a blast online.

It's gonna have a online co-op campaign that's 6ish hours, along with standalone modes...sounds pretty cool to me.

I wasn't complaining, just sayin' is all. I meant the vs. not the co-op.

The extra guns seem like they're going to give an unfair advantage. There's the one with the CE and the one from UPlay. So it'll end up "hey where'd you get those guns?!" "hax!" and so on.

Patrick Redding walks us through Prologue, the co-op multiplayer mode of Splinter Cell: Conviction.

                        1UP Co-op Preview

It's a prequel that sets up some of the events and obstacles that Sam will come across in the main story." Plotwise, this prologue focuses on how Third Echelon (if you didn't already know, that's the black ops division of the NSA) has learned that four Russian EMP warheads have been stolen and are about to be sold on the black market. So seasoned Third Echelon operative Archer is then dispatched to Russia alongside Voron (the Russian analog to Third Echelon) operative Kestrel, and the two different fellows (down to the classic archetype of how Archer is arrogant and boastful while Kestrel is more introverted) work their way through four maps that should provide players with a good four-to-six hours of gameplay.
Compared to the single-player, Conviction's co-op adds some interesting mechanics to the core gameplay. "Conviction, whether in single-player or in co-op, is about the 'Prepare-Execute-Vanish' gameplay loop," comments Redding. The Last Known Position, a single-player mechanic where a sort of phantom double of yourself becomes the target of the enemy A.I. (simulating the idea that you're so fast and sneaky, that enemies often attack where they think you are rather than where you actually are), becomes an immensely fun and amusing way to confuse foes in co-op. Interrogations, where you grab your victim and move him around to various "contextual bash points," now have a "it's your turn to keep watch while I smack his face against a wall safe" type of vibe.

The biggest co-op tweak is applied to what is probably the most significant new addition to Splinter Cell gameplay, the Mark and Execute (a system where the player designates multiple foes, and then quickly takes them down in a brutal fashion). For the prologue, not only can you share your Marks with each other, but you can then perform co-op Executes. Sharing Marks is pretty significant, as it can mean that, say, Archer is scouting a room from above while Kestrel is slinking down below; if Archer sees some fools from up high, he can Mark them so that Kestrel is also aware of their position. Plus, it's just pretty cool to coordinate a moment where Archer swoops down while Kestrel pops up take down three guys in about two seconds flat.

While Conviction's co-op won't have required "player one throws player two" type of co-op moves, there are some additional co-op only elements in the prologue campaign. Redding notes, "players can now survive moments that would have killed Sam in single-player; if Archer falls or gets shot, Kestrel has a chance to run over and revive him." Redding demonstrates a new maneuver where if a player gets grappled by the enemy, the grappled player can quickly elbow his assailant and then duck, which provides the other player with the perfect "take the shot!" opportunity to the assailant's now-exposed head and/or body.
Most of our time was spent playing the scenario, but Redding quickly talked a bit about the other multiplayer options and additions besides the co-op prologue. Like Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, there's the new-and-improved Persistent Elite Creation system. PEC still tracks player performance and challenges, and then rewards you with points to spend on equipment/weapon upgrades (such as increasing the amount of Marks you can create) or visual customizations (maybe change the light on your goggles? Who knows).

Then there's the alternate multiplayer option, "Deniable Ops," which spreads four multiplayer modes across six maps (the four maps from the co-op campaign, plus two all-new ones). Deniable Ops is where you'll find the familiar, such as the Hunter mode (a straight elimination challenge), Last Stand (the Splinter Cell take on survival versus mass A.I.), Face Off (the adversarial spy-vs-spy-with-mercenaries-who-are-hostile-to-everyone mode), and Infiltration (the pure stealth mode where if you're detected, it's game over). While Face Off, by its very nature, requires two players, the other three modes can be tackled either co-operatively or alone. Also, Infiltration was just announced as a Collector's Edition-specific perk, but I'm assuming that even if you didn?t buy the CE, you can unlock Infiltration via Ubisoft's own Uplay system. All in all, Conviction looks like it has a pretty good chance of matching the co-op standards established in Chaos Theory, while maintaining the single-player's "this is the all-new and different Splinter Cell game" vibe.

BS! If that's true then I'm not sure I get this straight away. May wait for the price to drop.

That is definitely disappointing. I love the series so I'll be getting it regardless. However, once I beat the single player and co-op campaigns it's probably getting sold towards something else.

I wasn't too impressed with the last game. It wasn't bad, but I guess I expected more. I'm not trying to get my hopes up too high with Conviction, but it looks pretty good.
