    Those controls sound pretty sweet.

Anyone have any guess on what the "X" button will do?

Re: Halo 3: Behind the Scenes

Definitely a nice update this week.

But there’s been a bunch of other audio progress too. Sound effects, especially in multiplayer, have made a kind of quantum leap. Lots of things in Halo will sound really familiar, but one thing that will sound new and awesome is the “distant gunfire” scheme. You know when you watch a completely awesome war movie, and in the distance you hear big, wide, echoey shell and gunfire and it takes on that weird, ethereal quality? We have that now. The funny thing is, at first it sounds like an ambient noise – you know, like birdsong or thunder – that we just put in for effect. But in fact, it’s all “real” which is to say, generated by actual distant battles.

Re: Halo 3: Behind the Scenes

Some weapons are leaning against objects (trees, walls, rocks and so on) so they are never obscured by anything. Others are found in those weapon canisters we used in Halo 2 single player. Not the same models of course – these ones have completely convincing foam insulation in ‘em. Other weapons are found in clearings, or on less obfuscated surfaces, like rock, sand or concrete. Gameplay takes precedence though, so leaning and canisters are brilliantly useful devices to keep things clear. It’s a video game after all. Not a simulation.
I really wish that they would have random weapon spawning. I hate playing against people who do nothing but play halo all day and they know where every good weapon is.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

It's not that hard to learn where all the weapons are. I play a level 2 maybe 3 times and I've already memorized where all the weapons spawn. What they need to go back to is the original Halo system of weapons respawning. In Halo 2 certain weapons (rocket, sniper, sword) wouldn't respawn if someone had them. It let people just gather all the good weapons and camp with them.

In Halo 1 each weapon and powerup was on it's own timer when it would respawn. Like every 2 minutes a new rocket would respawn. It made it so one team couldn't control all the power weapons.

Maybe it's not hard but it's annoying having people run for the spawning spot as soon as the match starts.

Oh, okay I agree with you on that one. That's why I also prefer games like GRAW or Rainbow where pick the weapon you start with, rather than some default weapon set for everyone.

It's also very annoying when one team spawns by the power weapons as the match starts.

Why can't they just make weapon respawn points totally random? It would solve all of those problems and stop every game turning into a "race for the weapons" type affair.

That's what I want to know. Once people learn where the weapons are it doesn't matter how well hidden they are.
