This game was PHENOMENAL! I beat it last night. 7 DIFFERENT endings? Wow. I'm definitely gonna give this game a couple more playthroughs doing different things when I get time. I want to get all the trophies.

Hmm...well TexanWolverine, I'm no fanboy, I have multiple Xbox 360's. It's the truth. I'd also be the first to say Xbox Live is fantastic and PS3's is downright terrible. Each system has it's own strengths and weaknesses and this area is one of the PS3's strengths. Sony should be making that very clear to the public.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Yeah I would hope no one would consider my words to be akin to flaming a system. I love the 360. It's just not capable of this type of game IMO. Again just my opinion!Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
I don't know about that statement because everything I have seen from Mass Effect 2 (haven't played it), it looks amazing. Granted we have not seen anything like Heavy Rain up to this point and even the in game graphics are amazing. I was thinking that what if Resident Evil franchise used this graphics engine w/out the QTE, it could be a creepy game again.Comment

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
Impressive lighting and shadowing, but I found everything else to be a mixed bag, and for such limited scenes (scale, complexity) I expected better. Both in visuals and performance. Luckily things are so controlled or the framerate drops would be a problem. The store clerk is the most impressive character model I've ever seen, he's very convincing.
Really great experience. I will probably wait awhile before replaying through again. I kind of wish I could forget eveything about it, just so I could go through it completely fresh again.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

The movement of characters was annoying at times...pretty good overall, but had its issues at times...Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

I've not played Mass Effect 2 yet but i've seen quite a few videos and nothing compared even close to the graphics in Heavy Rain IMO. Perhaps if I played Mass Effect 2 I'd have a different opinion though.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
Both are awesome games, I think it's tough to compare Heavy Rain's graphics to other games just because they are a bit more limited in what the characters are doing/moving/etc.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
Just finished my first playthrough of the game and going to start a new game in the next few days and see what happens if I do things completely different. Without further ado, here's a few things I'd like to point out (masked by the almighty "spoiler" tag):
Spoiler
-I decided NOT to go through with any of the "origami trials" with Ethan EXCEPT for the first car driving trial. I honestly thought walking away from these missions would "break the game", but it luckily didn't.
-I also decided not to let Ethan participate in the final mission, thinking it might have been a "trap", so I decided to let Madison go alone. Jayden eventually met up with her at the site after discovering Shelby through his evidence, and Shaun survived after a pretty heartwrenching CPR sequence. The end of the mission involved a huge shootout with Shelby on a crane, but I mistakenly killed him, not knowing there was a trophy if all four "protagonists" survived.
-Got a REALLY weird ending involving Jayden hallucinating virtual miniature tanks on his desk with an expression of horror on his face. What does that mean? Does he "die"? Or is he just going through heavy withdrawal? Confusing to say the least...
-The confrontation with "Doctor Death" was unbelievably intense. I mistakenly drank his "booze" and was poisoned, and ended up being tied to his table and nearly impaled when an apparent Jehovah's Witness knocked on his door, allowing me to escape by the skin of my teeth. The kinds of desperate actions that you must accomplish in a very short time is unbelievable. Gives this game a totally unique feeling in that regard. Delivers quite the emotional response.
-I NEVER thought Shelby was the killer. In fact, he had become my favorite video game protagonist in a long time before he was revealed (his mission at Kramer's house after the car drowning scene is simply badass). I honestly thought it was Blake, since he was such a horrible police officer and human being, but chose not to accuse him before I found the evidence that uncovered Shelby. Totally unexpected but great nonetheless...I wonder if this turns out differently depending on how you play the game...
Apart from that...Fox News may just have a field day with this game once it gains some notoriety around the market. The way it approaches sex and nudity is more gratuitous than what the Mass Effects offer. But who cares. It's a mature game for a mature audience (the same goes for ME).
As for the rest of the Mass Effect comparisons, the way Heavy Rain handles its character models, physics and graphics is superior, no question about it. The much-hyped Heavy Rain tech demo accomplished features such as tears a few years before ME2 did. OTHER THAN THAT, I think the comparisons are unfounded. Apples to oranges. Two entirely different games and gameplay experiences. I think ME2 gives you more control and options over how to handle a situation but lacks a lot of the unpredictability and "choose your own adventure" elements of Heavy Rain (apart from ME2's ending, of course).
Anyway, I'm very impressed. I love "interactive fiction" elements of RPG's and to see a game based almost entirely around that concept is great. I laughed when the game threw me into menial tasks, I tensed when the game urged me to complete actions in very little time, and I reacted to the situations my characters were thrown into with the same emotions those characters felt. That's effective game development IMO. A few issues with cameras and shaky voice acting put me off in parts, but largely, this game is another big GOTY candidate IMO. It's going to be an uphill battle at the end of the year with so many quality titles releasing in a very short span.Last edited by CarryTheWeight; 02-26-2010, 08:24 PM.Owner of URWL CAW WRESTLING: http://www.rantboard.net/Comment
