Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
Disconnecting won't work(I tried):
PlayStation Network Down [PSN]
Sony PlayStation 3 owners in multiple regions (including North America, Europe, and Australia) are facing the inability to sign into the PlayStation Network online gaming service, corrupted user data and inability to play some games online or off. The problems are accompanied by the 8001050F error code.
When they try to load up certain games — including the just-released Heavy Rain — they receive the error code and the following message: “Registration of the trophy information could not be completed. The game will now quit.” After the message, the system reboots. The problems seem to mostly affect older, “fat” models of the PS3. Slim models are either not impacted or affected far less frequently.
Trophies are prizes given to players for accomplishing certain tasks in each game; the trophies are synced with the PlayStation Network so players can compare their achievements. Gaming blog Joystiq found reports that the consoles were having their dates reset to 12/31/1999; that might somehow be related to the trophy syncing problems.
Once reports of the problems started to appear, Sony tweeted: “We’re aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we’re looking into it. Stay tuned for updates.” That’s all we’ve heard from them so far. There’s no solution just yet; even disconnecting your console from the Internet doesn’t help. We’ll post an update immediately when we hear about a resolution.Comment

I did recognize the guy who played Shelby, he was a cop in The Fifth Element (the one chasing Leeloo after she escaped in the beginning, the one who said "Do you understand? She doesn't understand.").Comment

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
Questions about story... SPOILER - murderer revealed ahead...
[Spoiler
After bagging the demo I got a copy and played through so far to where Shelby is revealed as the killer. My opinion is that this 'twist' was pretty stupid due to bad acting and plot holes but opinion aside, do the different stories change the killer at all? Or no matter what I do, he'll always be the killer? Was thinking I did something wrong/different to get this outcome.

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
I have to say that this game is a breath of fresh air in a console-game market that is flooded with the same old fps-on-rails types of games. The game sort of combines the fun of old school adventure games on the PC with the element of human drama added. When playing some of the scenes as Jayden or Shelby, I was kind of brought back to the days when I was a kid playing 'Daryl F. Gates Police Quest' on the PC.
But the most unique part of this game is how you start to care about the characters as the game progresses. You play the game and actually think "what would I do if I was caught in this situation?".
It is this bond between the player and the characters that makes the QTE action sequences so fricken awesome! On paper, you can look at the system of QTEs and think that this game would be a snooze fest. But when you are playing and inserted into the role as one of the main characters, when a QTE action sequence pops up, you really feel like you are fighting for your virtual life. You are focused on the screen, your heart rate is elevated and your reflexes are sharp.
The most intense moment in the game for me so far was...
Spoilerwhen you were playing as Jayden in Mad Jack's junkyard. The scene when he drops you into that car mauler was freakin' intense. When the car was first dropped, I thought it was game over for Jayden. But thanks to me and my quick reflexes, Jayden made like Houdini. It was probably the most exhilarating 7 minutes of gaming I ever had. And that is why I love this game.
I'm still not done with the game, but I can tell more surprises await me. I sit at my desk at work, staring at my little Heavy Rain origami figure just itching to get home and play.
After having said all of that, I do realize that this game may not be for everybody...Comment

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
SpoilerThe fights with Mad Jack were quite difficult. At the end of the first fight when Jayden had the gun pointed at Jack, I wonder if there is a choice or an event that can sort of quell Jayden's need for the blue cocaine. Because I was ready to turn Jack's brains into red concrete stains and then Jayden starts with his nose-bleeds. Of course I wind up dropping the stuff and then, well, we all know what happens. Mad Jack was a great character. Oh, Mad Jack, we hardly knew ye.
As for the fight with Dr. Death. Stupid me actually decided to take the drink. So, I didn't even get a chance to go snooping around his house.
I guess that's why I need to play through this game again.

There has to be soooooooooooo many variations to this story. Dr. Death was by far the most intense scene for me as well. However, he busted me while snooping in the bathroom, clubbed me, took me to the basement where I was tied up onto a bed. I was able to get myself free, however I was unsuccessful in my escape. He slit Madison's throat and ends up cutting her up with a hack-saw. (The actual cutting part isn't show) Anyway I was pissed because she died. Like, my stomach literally dropped when she was killed. I liked playing her. I ended up beating the game last night but I'm going to replay the Madison scene and hopefully live this time to see how the story unfolds from another perspective.Comment

Re: Heavy Rain (PS3)
It's cool to see that a lot of people are diggin this game. See, we videogamers aren't all just about ADD ticks and twitches.
SpoilerAhhhh...
Poor Maddy. That's a shame. Good luck the second time through. The way Madison wins that fight is truly epic. I won't give that part away, though.

Madison:SpoilerMadison's escape from the doctor was the best part of the game for me too. I loved how she kicked him after he died.Comment
