Why Was The PC Launch of Rage Such A "Cluster!@#$"?

    http://kotaku.com/5847761/why-was-th...such-a-cluster

"We do not see the PC as the leading platform for games. That statement will enrage some people, but it is hard to characterize it otherwise; both console versions will have larger audiences than the PC version." - John Carmack
That is fine John, but DICE is proving that you can make the PC the lead platform, and still produce great console versions scaling the engines back and have them look and run well (newest build tested by gaming media are saying much improvement over the beta build we have).

You disappoint me John... is Gabe from Valve and Rein from E-PIC the only one's left of the "Big 3" (E-PIC/id/Valve) that is PC first, consoles ported, yet still great sales and results without hampering the gamers that built your empires?

Well I guess i'll pass on RAGE. May pick it up later on when price drops. That will be like "paying me" for taking the time to do all the fixes myself.
I'll be fine playing BF3, Crysis and HL

How recent is that quote? Because that goes against everything he's been saying the past few months. He's basically said treating the consoles equally as PC was a mistake. Pretty sure I remember seeing that Doom 4 will lead on PC too.

Just interviewed by Kotaku, so it is as recent as statements get.

Weird. It was only months ago during a video interview with PC Gamer that he said, "I'm making a large change in direction. We should be focusing on building things efficiently on the PC, then deploying on consoles, and we didn't make that as crisp of a distinction as we should have."

Hate to say it guys but with the money it takes to upgrade and maintain a PC compared to the console, the PC is dying out and more developers are focusing on consoles more.

It's sad because PC has some of my favorite games of all time on it. Not to mention looks a lot better.

About halfway through this game and I really enjoying it. The mix between traditional combat and the driving/racing is pretty cool. The graphics are gorgeous at times. The story is somewhat bare and there isn't a whole lot to the characters, but so far that is isn't really bothering me as much as I thought it would. The combat has an old school feel to it , which I like.

Something that is starting to wear on me though is the fact the side missions are basically just going back through the same areas/hideouts as the main missions. That seems lazy on ID's part that they couldn't design some unique areas for the side missions.

Yeah I think he made a bad decision there...
PC game sales, while lower than consoles, have actually increased more percentage wise than consoles the last 3 years from some of the charts I've seen. Plus the fact that STEAM etc.. sales numbers are not released any longer so sales charts are not fully accurate.
Nvidia actually believes that due to digital downloads etc and because consoles will always be locked into technology for 5+ years, that PC sales number will surpass consoles by 2014-15. Don't necessarily believe that but either way it's still millions of dollars that companies aren't going to just throw away by deciding to stop making PC games.

In case anyone missed it, AMD released a "Version 2" preview driver set yesterday that seems to help smooth out this game and make it more stable with crossfire...

Get help with AMD products. Download drivers, find documentation, explore developer tools, and access support for graphics, processors & more.

Meh, just discovered that this driver set allows you to run Rage with crossfire enabled in CCC but it doesn't utilize your second card. Doesn't for me anyway.

A patch for the PC was released also:

I came across a really cool site that generates .cfg files for this game that can REALLY help if you are having trouble getting the PC version to run smooth on your system.

The .cfg file I'm using makes the game run super smooth for me.

Use at your own risk! I'm not responsible if something gets messed up....LOL
