Re: Bioshock Post Release discussion (360/PC)
it took this game to make you realize this? oh man, you've been missing out
Well I'm loving it, I've played it for about 2 hours straight and it feels like about 15 minutes. Once you start, you just get so "into" the game you forget about everything else going on. I've been scared a few more time and I think I'm almost at the end of the 2nd level. Great game thus far.PS4: aBayBates

Amazing title. Just lost 2 hours of my life, like Rockytop said, it felt like 15 mins. I just got the telekinesis and now I'm ready to rock and roll!Comment

Re: Bioshock Post Release discussion (360/PC)
My God, this game is intense.
I can't remember the last time a game actually made me get hot and tense. I'm playing on hard and I've only gotten to the part...
*PARTIAL SPOILER(I guess...)*
...Right after you kill the surgeon
So yeah, I'm not very far at all. I had to stop playing because I was getting kind of sick at my stomach from looking around(happens to me in every FPS for some reason?). Anyways, yeah, this is the 360 game for me in the current library. I didn't play the demo, so the opening fire on water scene just blew me away. The most graphically impressive thing I've seen in a game was when the tunnel started breaking with water rushing in. Simply insane.Comment

Re: Bioshock Post Release discussion (360/PC)
Okay, I feel a bit better. I've had the game since Saturday, played every night, and didn't get to the part he was talking about until last night. If someone matched my progress in an afternoon, that would be pretty ridiculous.Comment

Re: Bioshock Post Release discussion (360/PC)
I had posted this in the other thread but just wanted to re-post for those of you who are just joining the party. This really makes a big difference in the game.
after playing the game for the last three nights I want to offer two suggestions for getting the most out of this game.
First and in my opinion most important, ignore the vita-chambers (re-spawn points in single player campaign) and instead save often and reload from your last save whenever you die. The way the game is currently set up, when you die, you'll respawn but all the enemies will retain the damage they had before you died. So if you're fighting a big daddy, knock him down to 50% health and then die, when you respawn, he'll still be at 50% health going up against your full health. This really takes the tension out of the game because it makes you play not as smart and it throws strategy out the window. You'll find yourself more prone to running in guns-a-blazing (a sure-fire way to die) against a group of enemies cause you know you'll be able to weaken them and then respawn and finish them off. You can say that you'll just play more disciplined but the big daddy's are so tough and the fights with them are so hectic that your discipline will fall to pieces faster than you'd think.
Instead of using the game's respawn system, I've been saving before big battles and if I die in the fight, I'll reload and try again. The difference this has made in the game is unbelievable. Dropping a big daddy without dying will give you that "video game sense-of-accomplishment" that very few games are capable of doing and has provided some incredibly epic battles. I can't stress doing this enough. It completely changes how you'll play the game and make the use of strategy essential. The difference is huge. I didn't start doing this until the second level and there's a good part of me that wants to go back and replay the first level this way because now using the vita-chambers feels like cheating. It's just that now, I'm so wrapped up in the story that I don't want to go back and start from scratch again.
The other suggestion I would make is to go into the options screen and turn off the navigation arrow. The arrow tells you where to go and makes the game far more linear. It takes away some of the exploration and after the first three levels, some of the places to explore on the maps that are not on the route to your goals have been the coolest parts of the game. Although turning off the nav arrow won't make as big of a difference as ignoring the vita chambers, it will stretch the number of hours you'll get out of the game and boost your experience with it.Comment

Re: Bioshock Post Release discussion (360/PC)
as tinman mentioned. If you die, you can be resurrected in the last vita-chamber you passed by.though not ( since i havent used one yet) sure if it costs money, as it did in system shock.Comment

Re: Bioshock Post Release discussion (360/PC)
The game takes place in 1960 and from what I understand the the city was built following WWII, so 1944/45-1960. It's art deco style though and that was pretty much a creation of the 1920's and 1930's. So either the city's builder just really liked the stuff or the folks who made the game just realized art deco looks awesome and ran with it in their time frame.Comment

Re: Bioshock Post Release discussion (360/PC)
I think that it looks awesome - so I would vote for that one.
**Spoiler warnings (First level only)**
Just thought I would throw the spoilers out there, as I have just killed the Dr. I really want to call in to work the rest of the week just to play this - the game is THAT amazing. Playing it in the dark is creepy as hell. I think this is the only game I have ever played where I go out of my way to hunt down all the diaries. I have one ingrained into my head right now, I believe it was the lady speaking, where she is talking about the germans killing only for looks where they should have tried to figure out why some are weak and strong. Very chilling. The symmetry one is very creepy too, and nothing beats the scene right before you go mano-a-mano with the Doc. The surgery tape you can find in that room is interesting too.
I can't wait to play more - I wasted 2 hours of my time already, just walking around.badComment
