Re: Mafia II (PS3/360)
I have very high expectations for this game. Already preOrdered it. LOVE the open sandbox mafia style games. On that note, if you haven't played The Saboteur, be sure to check it out. I got it off eBay for like $10 last month, and it's been a great little game, along the lines of The GodFather from EA (looks to be using the same engine). Basically France is under German control. Anything under German control is in black and white (or gray scale), once you pull off a successful sabotage in the area, it becomes color'd. It's still under German control, but the color indicates the people are now fighting back. Found the game pretty enjoyable so far. If you enjoy sandbox games, and are jonzin for a new one, it'll be a nice little hold over game until Mafia II drops.Comment

Re: Mafia II (PS3/360)
I used to own that game, but I stopped playing it and never went back. Went ahead and sold it too. I did the same thing with the Godfather 2. Never beat that one, but did beat the first. I don't know what it is, but GTA IV and Saints Row 2 make it hard for me to enjoy any other related game.Comment

Re: Mafia II (PS3/360)
Saints Row 2 is my favorite open world game. Godfather 1&2 were good, though the vests at the end on G2 ruined the immersion. I can't stand GTAIV. I've tried to play it a good 5 or 6 times now, and every time I start, I get tired of fighting the controls. Driving cars is more like driving a boat, and controls otherwise are not too responsive. The game takes itself too seriously. Still, the Saboteur doesn't live up to it quality wise (art, textures, voice acting, etc), but for my $$$ it's still better control / gameplay wise. Not sure how Rockstar messed GTAIV up so much when Red Dead is such a dream to play.
After getting 100% in RDR I went back and started on GTA as I only played through the story the first time through and used cheats, etc. It is incredible how refined RDR is. Targeting, animations, everything is very crisp while GTA is a bit choppy sometimes.
After RDR, Im really looking forward to the next GTA. After I get 100% in LATD and BOGT, hopefully they have at least something showing gta 5.Comment

I always hated sandbox games because of GTA. The last one I liked was Vice City, but after that they were just too cartoony and goofy for my tastes.
RDR changed my opinion of sandbox games...as it has been (and still is) an amazing experience.
So, I went back and played every sandbox game there is on the 360. After going through them all, The Saboteur is clearly the second best imo. It is such an unbelievable game and such a shame they didn't have a little longer to polish it up.
I wanted to love The Godfather, as I love the movies, but I didn't think it held up well. The environments were pretty basic and the combat controls were a little too stiff after RDR and Saboteur.Comment

Here's how I'd rate my current generation sandbox games that I can think of:
- Red Dead Redemeption
- Saints Row 2
- Saints Row
- ProtoType
- Infamous
- Bully
- The Godfather (sorry, but I loved choking people in the game)
- The Saboteur
- The Godfather 2 (took a step back in everything but graphics sadly)
- The Hulk
- Mercenaries 2
- GTA IV (clunky controls killed it for me)
- Spiderman 3
- Just Cause
- Crackdown
Had to venture outside of normal shooting games to hit 15 there (hopefully I didn't miss any), and tried to stay away from RPG's like Oblivion, Fallout 3, etc.
Did I leave any off? How would you reorder the list? Other than "OMFG, why isn't GTA IV #1???"Comment

Re: Mafia II (PS3/360)
My list will just be the ones I have played.
1 GTA IV - The more realistic a game is the more fun it is to me. I loved the game and still play it a lot. Its my favorite game of all time.
2 Red Dead Redemption - Love this game too. I love the whole west is dying theme. The game is great and right up there with GTA IV, but I'll take modern over western because I have had more fun online in GTA IV than this. Single player wise they are very close.
3. Saints Row 2 - Still play this game. I love the over the top gameplay. The lack of realism doesn't bother me too much here since the game is just so fun. I still play this game here and there too. The customization felt lacking though compared to SR1.
4 Crackdown - Loved the theme of this game. Like Saints Row, its not realistic, but it definitely has a big fun factor. I had to at least put 150+ hours into this game and I am trying decide whether to get Crackdown 2 along with NCAA 11 or not.
5 Saints Row - The storyline was great and the game felt more realistic than Saints Row 2 and the graphics felt a little better, but the lighting not so. Game was a ton of fun and online was better than Saints Row 2. If it wasn't for all the activities to do in SR2, this would replace it.
6 Bully - Very different game, but I loved it. I actually owned it for the Wii first and I think I beat it. Bought it for 360 and got 60% through and stopped playing it much because Bad Company 2 came out.
7 The Godfather - Loved the whole theme about this game. I played it like crazy until I beat it, then I started to stop playing it more and more. I remember how much fun it was though doing everything for the 1st time. Robbing banks was so fun.
8 The Godfather 2 - Took a step back from the first. I played it a good amount, but didn't finish it like I did the first. The cities just felt lacking and that hurt the game for me big time.
I forgot to list Mafia one, but I loved it a ton. Would probably place it behind Saints Row 2.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”
