I probably would've got the game elsewhere if I knew they were doing this. Guess I wouldn't have gotten the film reels though. Still saving $2 anyway as I would've bought the 3 cases and the suits and gun are a bonus.

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
I think saying the majority of people want mutliplayer is a stretch at best.Thwy wouldn't make MP if that wasn't what sold games, and what the majority of people wanted, which in the case for FPS, is the case. I agree I hate FPS single player campaigns, the last FPS that had good SP was MOH for me, and that was a first in a long time since early Ghost Recon days.
But the fact that people think MP=crap Sp, is dumb. RDR had an excellent SP and MP experience. As did Assassins Creed. In fact, I would have only rented that game if MP wasn't available. It was different and did some great stuff. LA Noire could do something totally different with a cops and robbers type feel.
Using RDR as an example of a game that does SP and Multiplayer well is quite an underwhelming argument. That is the game of the year type game and quite possibly one the best games for the consoles ever. There aren't many games that do it well. Go back and read impressions on RDR. Almost exclusively about the single player experience. People did not buy that game for the multiplayer experience (at least on Op Sports)
Assassins Creed, when I read the impressions on Operation Sports, was hardly mentioned for its accumen in the multiplayer game.
The WII has been an overwhelming smash hit in the video game world, built largely on single player or local experience and not on online gaming. Not to mention the huge sales put up by people with the DS.
You basically made my argument when you just conceded that FPS basically have underwhelming single player campaigns because they focus on MP.
I am not saying that multiplayer isn't a viable segment, it is. But there are more people out there that don't care about it all that much. Shoot, I bought one of the Call of Duties for the PC. It is a good game. But Call of Duty is the excpetion and not the norm for a mostly multiplayer game that does it right.Comment

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
Well the story definitely picked back up during the Arson desk (during the second case I think). It's been hard as hell to investigate the arson crime scenes without using the rumble feature though.
I have two cases left and I might try to go for 100%, but finding all the cars is probably going to be a pain in the ***.
Anyways, I do feel I got my money's worth. I think it fell a little short of what I was expecting because I expected things to be a little more "dynamic" I guess. For example I thought the street crimes were going to be somewhat random similar to RDR. Like you'd be driving by a store and see it getting robbed or something like that. I also wasn't expecting things to end up working out no matter what mistakes you make, but I guess because it's the first game they felt the need to do that so the same story gets told to every player.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
I'm not saying that they should get rid of anything they put into single player; I'm saying they should have held out a while and put in some of the multiplayer that kept me playing RDR for the longest time. Just because you put MP in doesn't mean the SP has to suffer. In fact, you can skip the MP if you want to. The lack of it in L.A. Noire is making me consider if I want to keep it.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Which is what keeps people buying games and playing them longer than a game like this.I'm not saying that they should get rid of anything they put into single player; I'm saying they should have held out a while and put in some of the multiplayer that kept me playing RDR for the longest time. I'm sorry...but if you think the majority of people don't care for MP in their games, then you live in N64 days.Comment

I guess to them it could. They were on their 7th year of developing. Perhaps waiting longer wasn't worth it or in the budget.I'm not saying that they should get rid of anything they put into single player; I'm saying they should have held out a while and put in some of the multiplayer that kept me playing RDR for the longest time. Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
Granted a lot of people own a Wii, but how many of them also own a PS3, or 360? I know I do for the very reason I can play online with those two rather than the Wii. I also know that the majority of friends I have that have a Wii own one of the other two major consoles. And isn't Nintendo going to announce a new console at E3 in order to recapture the hardcore gamers and offer what the PS3 and 360 offer? Mainly online play?Comment

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
I've completed 17/21 story cases and I'm still having fun, but at the same time I'm ready to get this game beat. I don't think I'll keep it once I've beat it. I may get rid of it and then they will release some awesome DLC, but I'll take my chances..Comment

I guess we'll find out when pay DLC drops. If there is a lot of people buying it, then it wasn't that important, but if it doesn't sell, then a lot of people traded it in for something more.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Re: L.A. Noire (PS3/360)
Totally agree. There is a huge population of people out there that don't play multiplayer games. From my experiences, multiplayer gaming, particularly for FPS games, has given the developers an out on making fufilling single player experience.
5 hours of single player content for some of these shooters keeps me from buying them.Granted a lot of people own a Wii, but how many of them also own a PS3, or 360? I think you guys are just going to have to agree to disagree, it's the same argument that has gone on in one shape or another for 20 pages. Merc and King want MP, others don't, lets move on shall we.
In relation to the driving the huge size of the map almost works against this game imo.
I walk out of one location and need to drive to the next and I look at the map and see it's a thousand miles away on the other side of the map and all that driving will only hurt my performance because of damage etc so it's not even worth it. I just let the partner drive as you still hear the dialogue then it just cuts 10 minutes of mindless driving out of the game each case. The city itself looks awesome but the actual driving other than in car chases is a waste of time really imo.
I hope they allow the partner to drive and you to be able to read over the evidence / case notes in the next game.Last edited by Jonesy; 05-31-2011, 06:33 PM.Comment
