Re: Ouch 2K Sports....
EA Did something for the last 3 years, that they haven't been able to do in the past. They made sports games with better graphics.
You can all deny it, but 2k's graphics are outdated, and this world is large on Graphic whores.
People go to stores and pick up cases, they say,"damn those graphics are sick". They get the game home, and it could play like crap. But overall, those graphics got their attention.
EA markets their games, pushing graphics, never gameplay. Thats what the average and overall consumer sees, and so it sells.
2k has had better in the past, I don't know why they stopped.....Bring back those incredible graphics, and better marketing, and the sales will increase....Thats for damn sure.....Comment

Re: Ouch 2K Sports....
Quite Honestly - Based on these same parameters..how is EA Sports profitable? They paid huge exclusivity fees for NASCAR, PGA & FIFA. And we ALL know about the gazillion dollars they paid for the NFL license. the don't sell significantly more games than they did BEFORE exclusivity...and Madden in particular has flattened out.
I know they run a better shop than 2k for sure....but I doubt it's the cash cow it once was. I'm just saying.
FIFA
Fight Night
Madden
NCAA Football
NCAA Basketball
Live
Nascar
NHL
Rugby
Tiger Woods
EUFA Champions Leauge
Has EA ever lost money on any of these endeavors? If not, it's easy to see how they're still profitable. Maybe some of the franchises haven't continued to set sales records every year, but as far as I know EA has made money on each of these every year.
Plus I'd imagine that if one of these franchises struggles, they would sell enough copies of FIFA or Madden to cover the less profitable titles. They also release most of these games on about 10 different platforms...In my opinion, it would be harder to fathom EA Sports not being profitable.Last edited by DLaren; 11-28-2007, 08:18 PM.

Flattened out in what way? If you mean in terms of quality, sure I'll agree with that, but as far as sales go Madden is usually the top-selling game every year. They make a killing off of that franchise alone. Yes having to pay the NFL for the rights took away from that profit, but it didn't put them in the red.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Ouch 2K Sports....
I don't pretend to know the "ins-and-outs" of the business behind video-game production. I just believe that EA is too business savy to continue to make moves that don't benefit them financially in some way. So I don't see how them buying liscenses counts against them.Last edited by DLaren; 11-28-2007, 08:28 PM.

EA lost 25 million dollars in the first quarter alone in 2007. So far the projection for 2007 is a LOSS of 192 million dollars. Take Two "only" forecasts to losses of 145 million dollars. Taking that into account...you could argue that TTWO is in better shape than EA(hey, I should become an analyst, so I can skew facts for people to gobble up). The fact is...EA took on a HUGE nut with it's exclusive rights and it did not pan out for them the way they thought it would.
People could read the same Forbes report and see that EA did almost 3 billion dollars in sales and TTWO did just under 1 billion and argue that EA is blowing TTWO out of the water...then read the profit line(not the profit margin line) and you will get a much clearer picture. EA is not happy right now about it's profits...that I can guarantee.
