Re: Street Fighter IV/Super Street Fighter IV (360/PS3/PC)

so I'm now determined to learn a new character. Right now I only feel comfortable using El Fuerte or Abel online, and even then I'm pretty lousy with Abel. So I decided to try to go through everybody's trials and the following candidates have emerged: Dudley, Juri, Cody and Hakan. I still need to try Sakura, Rose and Gen so we'll see.

Also, going through all the trials I wonder if Makoto is the worst character in the game? I mean, she was painful to use, the specials weren't that special and the one person I've seen that used her online was awful.

Makoto isn't great, but she has the one hitter-quitter(any combo into super>Ultra), the early axe kick game(ex is overhead), the best dash in the game and a very fast overhead with EX chop. The main two things with Makoto are the difficulty in learning her best kara-choke and getting inside on projectile characters. She even has a lot of moves to stop focus attacks.

I would say stick with Abel. Look him up on Youtube and watch top players. He can be very sick with the mindgames. Word is he's gotten quite the upgrade, not that he was any slouch before.

I'm not ditching Abel by any means, just looking to learn a new character. Keeps the game fresh and gives me more flexibility when I do endless battles. I have seen some videos of the top Abel players, I watched juicebox and rico suave at evo and those dudes are nasty.

          Hopefully not Nash.

I'd like to see Yun/Yang(divekick!) personally, but I also think Urien is a great fit. Animation wise, Seth has borrowed from him, but they play totally differently, and Urien will be very interesting in a world without a parry.

You can speed up your reactions by improving your setups and matchup knowledge. You made some good points about options that people have in the corner. The same applies for every zone and for every matchup. At different distances, different characters do different things(I know you know that). Knowing what YOUR character can do vs. what THEIR character can do puts you in a position to narrow down those possibilities to a predictable and manageable number of outcomes. This is one way to improve reaction time.

Example: Say I'm playing a character with good, long zoning pokes. My opponent Focus fishes for the poke and I react with an EX Armor Breaker. I didn't actually "react" quickly, but rather anticipated the set up. This is an obvious example, but you can apply it to all situtations--anti airs, projectiles, combo strings and even tick throws.

The key is to gear your training to have you recognize those situations, be able to engineer those outcomes in your favor and "react" accordingly.

The other thing you can do for your reaction time--and this is gonna sound weird--stare at the game as it played out. Really, really focus. We tend to work on normal perception. The same perception that we use to text message, to cross the street, to order our food. But you can access a higher perception if you force yourself to do it. Just zone up, stare at the game and really make an effort to see the frames you normally overlook. Sounds new-agey, but it works.

I'm a fairly crappy 1st person online shooter player, but I find that after a very long time playing one of two things will happen: 1) I get tired of playing and have to go back to being an adult 2)I go into "frenzy mode". Rather than just running around and looking at door ways and popular areas, my entire play through becomes a sequence of eliminating opportunities for my opponent's success. In this mode, my perception is heightened, and I'm really trying to see each of the frames of the action as it is happening.

The important thing is to note that we normally are not in the habit of even asking our brains to go into this mode. So the most important part of getting there is the attempt. The more you get there, the easier it is to recognize that state and achieve it again.

LOL. No time to be competitive. My rep was already taking a hit because I was playing while rusty. I can't just do it for fun, I gotta really mix it up. If I can't set aside a few long nights and some daily practice time, there's no point. Better to just enjoy single player games like Red Dead and Dragon Age. The only game I'll be putting time into this holiday season will probably be Rock Band 3 anyway. Gonna pick up the Squire and learn all of those songs on real guitar.

so I decided to go through everybody's trials to see how many I could get done, and to see if I could pick up a new character. The person I accomplished the most trials with? T. Hawk. Weird, but whatever. Anyway, through it all I started to play as Hakan. I don't know if I'm actually halfway decent with him, or if it's because not many people know how to play against him, but I'm doing alright with him online. My career winning percentage in SSFIV is around 41 or 42, but with Hakan it's at 53.

Hakan is the man simply for the hilarity. It throws off my friends when I use him because they can't stop laughing and/or feeling awkward about how ... strange he is.

so I was playing a lot of endless battle yesterday (hosting 2-person lobbies because I'm impatient and hate waiting) and I got some guys who would stick around for more than a few fights regardless of winning or losing. So I decided to play around with some different characters and one guy I kind of like is T. Hawk.

There are some reasons I shouldn't: his second ultra is pretty bad, I have a lot of trouble landing his ultra 1 in match, people do their best to stay as far away as possible, and I have trouble doing a reverse DP motion for whatever reason so it's hard for me to do his condor spire. Yet, it's kind of fun to play as T. Hawk. His moves do a ton of damage, both regular and special, and his attacks have good range as well. I also like how condor dive often trades with DPs and spire is armor breaking.

Looks like the OS fire has died out w/ this game. Hopefully the update, which will add new characters, will get some of you back into it.

Yun and Yang likely in Super Street Fighter 4 arcade

A few new images surfaced showing an outline of Yun's skateboard and Yang's skates. You may have seen these before, they were originally rumored to be fake, but as you can see from the scans of Arcadia Magazine, they're quite real.

These images likely mean Yun and Yang will be added to Super Street Fighter 4's arcade release as playable fighters. The skateboard and roller skates have long been associated with these two — in their artwork and during in-game sequences in the Street Fighter 3 series.
