Re: Street Fighter IV/Super Street Fighter IV (360/PS3/PC)

When you say you're having trouble with charge characters I assume you mean getting in? What exactly are you having trouble with? Are they just holding back/down-back all day? I think another problem you may be having is that both of the characters you've mentioned revolve around a heavy mix up game, you have to know your options and you're opponent options.

All you really need is one knockdown with Fuerte, the rest is all guesses. Fuerte's second ultra starts up in 3 frames so it can punish almost every move in the game outside of jabs, shorts and some ex moves. Try to start reacting to unsafe moves by these characters and punish with his ultra.

With Fuerte you always want to get a knockdown to start your mix-up. Once his opponent is knocked down Fuerte has about 7 different ways to mix-up creating one hell of a guessing game (this is why I used to hate Fuerte, if you don't know the his moves and what to look for you will die). On top of that, with his new ultra he can start option selecting off of his mix-ups meaning even if you guess right you will be caught.

Abel also has a ton of mix-up options and he can combo into his first ultra. Use his roll to get in and mix it up with Tornado Throw and Change of Direction. You can also use his step kick to get in and go into a Tornado Throw, if they start jumping or back dashing to avoid the TT start a combo to keep them grounded.

the bolded is a big problem with Fuerte. With Abel I can roll or EX roll so it's not as big of a deal. And yes, once I get a knockdown I am able to do a lot of damage, at least against similarly skilled opponents. I use Fuerte's old ultra, I will need to learn how to use his new one, especially since I seem to be missing with ultra a lot more in this version than SFIV.

Haven't played in a long time. Probably won't be on for another month or so. I'm taking two intensive summer quarter classes, so my gaming time has been destroyed. I'm going to power through these two classes and then I will be done with school forever ... unless I decide for a Master's.

If that video doesn't do it for you..

It's basically letting the game engine put you in the best situation possible based on your inputs and you're opponents decisions.

                Quick example: tatsumaki option select.

I'm playing Ryu, I knock you down and safe jump in with fierce punch and option select a tatsu, meaning I'm jumping in with fierce punch but BEFORE I hit the ground I also input the command for the tatsumaki

so your input would look like(from 1P side)

(initial jump) (fierce punch) (tatsu right before hitting the ground)

Now here is where the term option select comes into play. Based on what your opponent does he will either

                A.) be hit
B.) block the jump in, but you'll be safe (assuming your jump in was infact a safe jump in)
C.) hit you with their reversal*

                Options..

You decide to block: Nothing happens, you block my hit and I can go into a block string or you can try a reversal.

You decide to back dash: because of the invincibility frames on backdashes in this game the fierce punch i'm jumping in with will whiff, but because the game sees the tatsu input the tatsu will come out as soon as I hit the ground and catch your backdash

You decide to try a reversal: if my jump-in is in fact a SAFE jump-in I will land before your move starts up and I will be able to block and punish you in your recovery frames

                <object width="480" height="385">

                <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nL2zpySSymE&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></object>

In this video the dummy is set to option select EX DP (it's still the same concept even though my example used tatsu)

You can't see the inputs but the Dummy Ryu's input looks like this (from 2P side)

(sweep) (jumpin fierce) (EXDP before hitting the ground) (low short blockstring)

@ :05 Rufus blocks the initial jump in fierce the EX DP doesn't come out and Ryu goes straight into a blockstring.

@ :09 Rufus tries to EX Messiah on wakeup, because of EX Messiahs invincibility frames the jump in fierce whiffs so the EXDP comes out, beating out Rufus' EX Messiah

I could go on and on but that's the basic concept, you input several moves and depending on what your opponent does, the game engine decides what to do.

i think i do some this stuff normally without knowing the names for it but how do u expect someone to do this stuff consistently on a controller?

and i still dont get this frame stuff.

Man there are no flashers... now what are we going to do for vd
I'm sure there's plenty of prostitutes you could pay if you really want vd.
yea but will they take psn cards
Depends on what area of a hooker you would use to redeem them.

In all honesty, most of the commands can be done on a controller with the right amount of practice. I don't think I've ever owned a joystick.

Option selects shouldn't be a problem on a controller. All your doing is basic inputs, if you can do a shoryuken then you should be able to option select a shoryuken, unless you have huge hands or something.

the bolded was excellent advice. I switched to Feurte's second ultra and I'm landing it at a much higher rate than the first ultra. It starts up so quickly, the only time I miss with it is when I'm too far away.
