      Re: Diablo 3

Is there a game or series out there that this compares to? Just curious as to know what I'll be getting into, getting it on PS4.

Had it compared loosely to WoW, a few others...

Also is this the type of game that you can put tons of hours into? I assume so esp. with the DLC and expansion. Never played a Diablo game before...

It's nothing like World of Warcraft....trust me on that. Have you played Titan Quest or Sacred? Those games are a lot like Diablo.

I have over 100 hours in the PC game...it's a huge amount of hours BUT the best part is you can play for 15 minutes or 6 hours...it's very good in that regards...although time can fly because you get so engrossed if you're not careful!!

The first question is tough to answer, as Diablo itself is perhaps the most prolific example of its own genre. I guess the MMO comparison is valid as many of them have taken up that style of gameplay. I could say it's like Path of Exile or Torchlight, but odds are if you don't know Diablo you won't know those (they're "clones" of Diablo's original idea and gameplay)

You can sink tons upon tons of hours into this game if you go beyond just beating it once. The game is made to be played through multiple times, and the difficulty can be adjusted to fit whatever level your character is at the time. But the loot is what really keeps people coming back - trying to get your character the best equipment so you can take on that next difficulty is a game in and of itself.

I was beyond disappointed with Diablo 3 on PC. I played it for all of 4 weeks. Played Diablo 2 for nearly two full years. Haven't touched the game since 4 weeks after launch, nor had a desire to.

With that said, I'm buying on PS4 as it's the ONLY ARPG available right now. That and I played the demo on the PS3 when it was available and I was very impressed with the UIs and control schemes. It is quite simply one of the best ports I've seen from a PC, and the Diablo gameplay harkens back to the D&D and Nosgoth days on XBox / PS2 which I greatly missed on PS3/XBox360.

So preordered and patiently waiting for some quality slaying time.

The new expansion to Diablo 3 added a few things that made the game better, but the lack of any type of trading really kills the excitement of the game to me. Right now If I only had a choice of one ARPG to play, it would be Path of Exile no doubt. Their amount of customization, end game builds, crafting, and very frequent updates make it the best ARPG out now in my opinion.

Its free to play, so if the guy above has no idea what Diablo is like, he can download that to get a general idea.

Preordered digitally yesterday. Did they add another class with the DLC? Or is it still 4?

You get the Crusader class with the expansion.

Eurogamer: Blizzard says dual frame-rate issue is a bug - with a fix added to the day one patch.

"After we we read your article we went back through, looked at the code, and determined that we made mistake on, essentially, updates. So we're now at full 60 frames. We're now posting an update that will go up before the day one patch, and will be part of the day one patch," Hight continues.

"As soon as we saw your article I sent it over to our core engineering lead, and I'm saying 'hey what's this this about?' Those guys are awesome - they jumped right on it, looked through the code, and were like 'I'll be darned we actually have a problem here with the way we're updating'... So our goal is to have that out day one, so on the 19th. We actually put the Sony [PS4 patch] into format today, and Sony's going to give us a pretty quick turnaround on it. I don't think we're going to have a problem getting it day one."

I miss the skill trees from the other Diablo games. Just not a fan of the use any power at any time approach to the game with the heavy emphasis on gear for power / enhancements. Blizz ruined the experience for me after I built a Wizard that used the shield + blade attack (sorry, don't remember exact names now) where it was nigh invincible. After trading / buy gear... getting it working, they nerf it so it wasn't viable (at least for me with my build). They did that over and over again. Find a good spot to farm, they remove it. Just didn't get their whole approach the first month or two out with the game.

First I've heard on the trading. Are you saying with can't trade with other people on the Playstation 4 platform? I knew we couldn't play with PC gamers, but figured we could trade with other PS4 gamers...

If you want to get a feel to what diablo is and have a somewhat decent PC then download POE. Or what videos on youtube. Thats the best way to explain what it is.

Marvel Heroes is pretty good too, and is a great counter to Path of Exiles dark and gloomy vibe.

Or just download Diablo 3 for free from Activision's site and play through the entire first area for free right?
