So total noob question... But are the weapons more for cosmetic look? Just strange that I have a trident but he spits darts.

Well you are using a dart spell, don't see why the spell would be any different.

That's one thing I don't like about diablo 3. How does carrying an axe with better physical stats make your spells stronger?

Its because the stat of DPS on a weapon is pretty much all that matters. Itemization is certainly not a strong point of this title.

So when I open Diablo it just sits there at "updating blizzard launcher (0%)"

          Anyone else have this problem?

I had it happen earlier. Just check the security program on your computer. I just had to "allow" my computer to accept a download from Blizzard, after that I was all good.

Well yeah that was kinda my point. You never actually "use" the weapon. Not a huge deal, but it's odd.

Tried that, and it got stuck at 95%, then tried again and got stuck at 74%.

I'd be careful if you're considering playing the upper difficulties. People are saying Inferno for melee is near impossible outside of grinding certain bosses many, many times in order to make progress. Might be adjusted by the time you play through though.

Got my Barbarian in act III right now.

So far I'm enjoying the game. There are some things they did way better, and others I feel they didn't do as well on.

The game definitely feels more alive, though. D2 felt so empty - d3 managed to make the cities feel alive, and some of the background scenery (esp act III) makes it epic. Watching a war going in down below while I fight atop a strong hold is awesome.

However, I don't enjoy the boss fights as much. I greatly disliked the 2nd act battle and almost just stopped playing mid-fight. I don't know what it is, but I feel D2 did the boss battles better.

I have a monk and a wizard and so far I enjoy playing the monk more. However, going by what the battle.net forums are saying, you have to turn into mega tank if you hope to get anywhere in inferno, especially if you're going solo. I'm only level 41 on nightmare right now, not too many problems yet.

I've got to say most of the boss battles in this game were a bit underwhelming. The Butcher and Belial are the only ones that stand out.

How do you turn elective mode on???

                            EDIT: Nevermind, found this:

                            What is Elective Mode?
By default, Elective Mode is an option in the game that is turned off. It's recommended to turn this on when you get a chance.

Elective mode allows the player to place multiple skills from the same category to their key bindings.

How do I turn Elective Mode on?
Once you join a game, simply hit ESC > Options > Gameplay > toggle on Elective Mode.

What does Elective Mode allow you to do?
By default, the attack buttons in Diablo 3 are bound to the following: Left mouse button, right mouse button, and the 1, 2, 3, and 4 keys on the keyboard.

The skills in Diablo 3 fall into six categories. These categories vary by class, but every class has six. E.g., The Wizard's six categories are: Primary, Secondary, Defensive, Force, Conjuration, and Mastery.

With elective mode off, a wizards Primary skill must be bound to the left mouse button, a Secondary skill must be bound to the right mouse button, a Defensive skill skill must be bound to the 1 key, a force skill must be bound to the 2 key, a Conjuration skill must be bound to the 3 key, and a Mastery skill must be bound to the 4 key.

By extension, it means the player can only use one skill from each category when selecting which six skills to use. Once they choose a Primary skill, that is the only Primary skill they can use until they switch it out with another Primary skill.

With Elective Mode on, the player is allowed to place multiple skills from the same category on their key bindings. A player could use four Primary skills if they so desired.

With a basic Ice Wizard build with Elective Mode turned on, the player can select both two Defensive and two Force skills. With Elective Mode off, this would not be possible since the player would be forbidden from using multiple skills from the same category.

tl;dr: Leaving Elective Mode off will limit your skill choice combinations, and by extension, customization. It is highly recommended that you turn it on as soon as possible.

Just wanted to send a nice shout out to Alphastus, Realmk, and Melman for our fun time through part of Act 3 last night. 3 DH's and a wizard was fun indeed. Even though I had already done those parts solo, it was fun and some good loot, gold, and xp. I'm going to be late night gaming tonight so if anyone needs help or wants to run through act 3 I'll gladly run along. I'd like to finish Act 3 tonight as my goal

I will probably be on later also if you want to team up. Since I have a wedding to go to this weekend I'll probably be on late to kick the gaming addiction so I can get through the weeekend lol. This addiction feels like highschool all over again with D2.
