    Re: Gears of War 2

Shots fired at the used games market.

Gears of War 2 getting free day-one DLC

Gamers who buy a new copy of Gears of War 2 will find a special treat -- a redeemable voucher for a free "Flashback" downloadable map pack. Cashing in the voucher over Xbox Live will grant you a free download of five classic (and visually enhanced) multiplayer maps from the original Gears of War: Canals, Gridlock, Mansion, Subway, and Train Station. This brings the total multiplayer map count to 15. The Flashback Map Pack voucher is only included with new copies of Gears of War 2; used versions will obviously be missing the voucher. The download is planned to go live on November 7th, Gears of War 2's launch date.

Furthermore, in addition to the gold-plated Lancer being offered with the Limited Edition Gears of War 2, Epic recently revealed to GamePro that a gold-plated Hammerburst assault rifle will also be available. In order to unlock the gold-plated Hammerburst, fans will need to participated in "Midnight Madness" launch events taking place around the country on the night of November 6th. Players will be able to earn both the golden Lancer and the golden Hammerburst by meeting both requirements.

The golden guns are purely aesthetic tweaks and have no impact on the damage or effectiveness of either weapon&but they sure do look snazzy! Design director Cliff Bleszinski reckons theyll also help foster teamwork online, because the gleaming guns help player visibility so you can spot friends more quickly.

What's more, Microsoft and Epic won't be offering the free downloadable content as paid DLC, telling GamePro that "there are no plans at this time to make them available as paid downloads through LIVE Marketplace." Epic referred to the Flashback Map Pack and golden guns as "special gifts [for] our loyal fans."

Further details about the Flashback Map Pack and the gold-plated guns are available in the November 2008 issue of GamePro, trickling to subscribers now and newsstands in the following days.

I just wonder if we are going to get any solution/alternatives to mods on the XBOX, since they said there will be no PC version. Maybe they can work something out with Microsoft to support mods, I'd be willing to pay extra for a file storage on live to be able to use mods

I doubt it's universal. They have one for The Orange Box's online game Team Fortress 2. Looks just like something Epic is putting in there.

Man, I remember 2yrs ago when this game was online madness! A bunch of us from OS did about a month of nightly gaming and it was a blast. I'm looking for to that!

                  Re: Gears of War 2

                  Multiplayer Game Modes

                  Warzone
A COG team is pitted against a Locust team. The goal is simple—eliminate all members of the other team before they eliminate you. Note that you cannot respawn in this mode, so if you’re killed, you have to wait until the next round begins before you can play again.

                  Guardian
In this mode, one player from each team is sected to act as the leader. The goal of the leader is to stay alve for as long as possible, because if the leader is killed, that team loses the ability to respawn. Protect the leader at all costs!

                  Wingman
Up to five two-player teams compete against each other until one team reaches a set amount of points. The only way to kill an opposing team member is at close range or with a one-shot kill. Points are awarded for kills and for winning a round, so players don’t have to win every round in order to win the match. In the even of a tie, the match is settled with another round. You and your teammate play as two versions of the exact same character, so any othercharacter is the competition.

                  Submission
In the twist on capture the flag, players must down a Stranded character, capture him as an enemy shield, and carry him inside a ring located on the map. When a player delivers the “flag” to this ring, his team must hold the flag there for a set amount of time to win the round. If the “flag” escapes before he’s taken to the ring, then the team must recapture him. Beware: The Stranded character is armed and dangerous, so capture him can be a deadly challenge.

                  Execution
This game type is similar to Warzone, but instead of dying after you are knocked down and bleed out, you automaticly revive. The only way to kill an opposting team member is at close range or with one-shot kill.

                  Annex
Players win by retaining control over fixed capture locations (rings) long enough tocollect a winning number of points. Every map has multiple locations available for capture, with one loactation available at a time. If a location is held by the enemy, enter it to break possesion and defend it to gain control. Players killed while defending a capture location cannot respawn.

Once all the points from one loactions have been collected, a new location appears. The first team to reach the target score wins the round. Note that target scores are adjustable in private games.

                  King of the Hill
Players must gain control of a fixed capture location (ring) on the map and retain control long enough to collect a winning number of points. To keep collecting points after a capture, at least one player must remain within the location to defend it. Players killed while defending a capture loaction cannot respawn. Execution rules are in play here, so they only way to kill an opposing team member is at close range or with a one-shot kill. King of the Hill has only one laction per round, instead of the multiple locations found in Annex.

                  Horde Mode
Horde is a new mode of arcade-style combat exclusive to Gears of War 2. Up to five players can join together to fight against waves of various -- and increasingly difficult -- Locust Horde enemes.

At the beginning of each wave, enemies spawn from various points of the map. Your team needs to clear the map of all of the enemies in order to progress to the next wave. When the last enemy is killed, fallen players respawn and begin fighting against in the next wave.

Each successive wave is more difficult than the last, so it is essential that players work together and form strategies to avoid being overwhelmed. Players will remain in their current position when each wave ends, so be sure to take note of where you and the other players are before the next enemy onrush begins.

The ammo in certain weapons refreshes at the beginning of each wave. Ammo containers located throughout the map also refresh, but players should take caution -- it's easy to become seperated from your team once the enemy begins attacking.

If all players are killed in the same save, the game ends.

sell plasma. You can do it like twice a week I believe and if you did it 4-5 times, you'd probably have enough money to get the game.

I got to play this for a little bit today. They had some Best Buy College Tour thing on campus, and I stopped by in hopes that they had some new games to play. I never thought Gears 2 would be one of them.

Anyways, I played a few multiplayer matches, and I have to say I was impressed. We played 4 teams of 2 and it got pretty intense. It seemed like a pretty early build because the graphics looked a little bit washed out and not very polished, and there were a few graphical glitches. But all in all, it was pretty cool.
