Re: Lets Talk About: MARIO KART WII

I HATE the Mega-Mushroom when using one of those buggy-style carts...can't see ANYTHING in front.

Other than that, I'm loving the game as well. Haven't tried using the bikes yet, as I'm working on the 50cc circuit first.

EG, I'll add your code here in a sec...

      I got it!

      I got it!

I absolutely hate it in 16;9. 4;3 is perfect;y good though. it seems to me that in 480p 16;9 does not go well with the Wii at all EsP. Mario kart where A lot of the game looks stretched and causes the game to loose texture quality resulting in awful blurriness.

There are very few cons to this game, the new courses are awesome for the most part (esp the unlockable ones).

Only downsides so far for me are no multi-player GP, no power sliding or jumping and that stupid Squid/Ink weapon - that's just annoying!

They definitely need to add an item selector a la Smash Bros next time through.
I'm pretty sure there IS powersliding ehh.

        [EDIT]

        YUP! From GameSpot:

"They are instead determined by the amount of time spent in a drift, and in fact can't be done at all in automatic mode. The type of vehicle you select also affects how drifting works, as go-karts have the ability to super mini-turbo boost by drifting around a turn a bit longer than normal. Motorcycles can't do this, but they can pop wheelies for extra speed on straightaways at the cost of impaired turning and increased susceptibility to ramming attacks. It is worth mentioning that while snaking is still possible to perform--especially on wide and open avenues-- it is no longer as viable or even as helpful as it once was."

Thanks, sounds interesting. I haven't tried manual drifting yet, I'll give it a whirl.

yeah the powersliding is in there, it's just a little different. You hold the R shoulder button down while holding the gas (A button) and it will do a drift for you around a turn. It's easier than in Double Dash because you don't have to do anything to activate it other than hold R down. It goes to the blue sparks which gives you the little boost, and if you hold it a little longer you get orange sparks to give you a bigger boost. Bikes can't get the orange sparks, but they can get the blue sparks.

I played the game a lot this weekend, enough to open all tracks on all CC levels and beat the game on 50cc and 100cc. 150cc is tough, but I just have Special Cup left on it. Nintendo sure made it tough to unlock all the characters this time though. I can drive well enough to get a star rating on each course, but the darn cpu and all its stupid weapons pretty much make it near impossible to get a star rating on every course for the unlockable characters. I'm sure I'll eventually get it, it just irritates me when I drive the courses near perfect but still lose because the bombardment of items the cpu throw at me. But hey, that's Mario Kart.

So my daughter, girlfriend and myself can all play together correct?

When someone talking about the screen, is it not going to fill up my whole widescreen?

I might pick it up. Mario Kart was a game I loved in the past and I want a game to play with my family.

So how does rhe game play without the wheel? Not sure if I want to also pick up another wheel with this game.

Without the wheel, it's basically the same control scheme as all the other old Mario Kart games. I play it about 50/50, with the wheel and the classic controller. If I'm playing single player, it's the controller...but my wife demands I use the wheel if we're racing against each other.

How do you guys feel about the supposed AI super-cheat on 150cc that some of the reviews mentioned?

Like aukev I played this game enough yesterday to unlock all the courses and I played a probably 8-9 hours of this game yesterday - probably 4 hours on 150cc and I didn't see anything bad in terms of cheating or AI comeback.

Is this only suppose to be prevelant in one-player modes?

I have only used the wheel so far, wife and I have had a blast using it, I'll probably only use the wheel. This is after making fun of TJ about it, but I find it more fun, and the wife likes the wheel, so I'm just sticking with that route.

I bought this with intentions of only using a Wavebird to play it. I tried the wheel on my first play and have no intentions of playing it any other way. I am not sure why but the wheel is just a lot of fun.

.....and manual powersliding is the only way to go IMO
