With the CPU guidance off is great. BTW the online modes are just co-op through the campaign missions on the demo.

They do. I joined up with 3 randoms and played through the second mission.

When given the prompt, you can hit X and a trail of blue triangles light up and lead you to your target. If you are being pursued, you can hit X and a trail of red triangles light up for you to follow and use to map your way out of the plane pursuing you. This is a very arcade-like feature that you almost would expect from Ubisoft. Whether or not you decide to use it is your call. Also, you can trail a missle by holding your A button down after firing.

There are 3 views. Third person, First person and Cockpit. You cycle those views by pressing in on the right stick. There is a 4th view called limiter off. what that does it puts you almost on a pursuit view of your plane. I like it. It's a very smooth flowing view that centers itself when you level your plane. Very nice.

The graphics (to me) are great, very smooth framerate. Buildings are nicely structured in 3D, but not all of the landscape is 3 dimensional. Clouds, water, sky look great.

This is not heavy on simulation, but with all that's going on, I don't think I'd want it to be. That second mission gets pretty busy.

First impression: 8.5 out of 10. The smoothness of the game and very niely done presentation is what stood out. Very much along the lines of GRAW with the overlays and quality music. Be sure to try the demo.

I 2nd everything that you said Dave.

The frame rate does take a drop from time to time when you've got a couple dozen targets on screen, all the smoke, and flying through clouds.

Graphically, this game looks freaking GREAT! Better than Ace Combat 6 (which wasn't shabby).

I like the controls be it flying in assisted or unassisted mode.

Assisted Mode is when you are far behind the plane. In this mode you can turn even more sharp by hitting the brakes, the only down side is that you WILL stall if you bank to hard. This is like a Risk Reward camera angle which is great. It won't be able to be abused as much as people think.


I like flight games of almost any kind. Sim OR Arcade.

HAWX is pure arcade, but has enough too it with stalls and such that even the Hardcore SIM guys will have fun and appreciate this game.


I tried out the voice controls. There's a tinge of lag between when you say the command it happens. Firing and quickly targeting I won't be using the voice commands for... BUT telling your wingmen to "Attack" or "Defend' is nice as well as "Deploy" (for chafes)... and "Weapon" came in handy a couple times (switching between them).


In the demo you can get to the Level 3 of experience. It upgrades your Wingmen as well as it gives you other craft to fly. 3 in the demo.


This is going to be a VERY cool game. I'm actually more excited to play this than I am Killzone 2.

The coop in the demo is a nice touch.

I think everyone unlocks the Harrier. I want the Superflanker though. The Harrier doesn't seem to be cut out for the mission on the demo. It's slower, andmore of a bomber.

Yep, I want to play onliune with some OSer's....I think it be fun with 4 people.

Just played the demo and I'll have to gamefly the full version, feels a lot more fun than most plane games!

It took getting used to, but the assistance on/off differences are awesome. It flows with the "off" and the far away camera, but they give you cool stuff with assistance too.

I popped in Ace Combat 6 after paying the HAWX demo a few times.
Even ACE 6 is pretty fun.

Both games are arcade, but that's cool. Being a total sim wouldn't be all that fun if you had 4 missiles then had to fly back to base, land, re-arm, and take off again... well, for some it would be, but not the masses.

Well actually that kind of realism is why Falcon is still going strong on PC. I prefer that over the arcade style BUT I undertsand why it's like that on consoles.

I've got NO ISSUES with pure Sims. They are cool too.

It's nice having something that's a tweener.

Yeah...I don't have an issue with pure flight sims, I just know that there's no way I can deal with playing them...I'm just not passionate enough to learn all there is to know. I like the ones you can pick up and play, rather than pick up and crash for 8 hours until you learn all the keyboard commands.
