the only reason I think it sucks is that sony lets it happen, while selling a 40 gig ps3 as their primary, window sticker console. I've only got 25 gigs left on my HDD, and have only played a few games that force an install. I know you can upgrade the HDD, and delete the installed files when you don't play the game anymore, but alot of people wont. How stupid would it be to buy a game, only to not be able to play it because you ran out of HDD space?

It will happen. The whole hype to bluray was its amazing size. It is pointless when gigs and gigs of games are dumped onto a 40 gig HDD because the drive reads too slowly.

Well I think that was a compromise with the slower drive speed of the PS3. It's something that had to be done to get the PS3 on the market- they couldn't put in a 8x BR reader and then charge $1000 for the system. It's something that the PS3 is going to have to deal with throughout its lifetime. I have one game on the system (w00t Show) without a mandatory install, but I upped my HD to 160 GB just in case.

But I agree with your general point- if I was younger and had time for a bunch of games, space would be an issue.

you know what the EXTRA cnent should be?

100 shops restuarants etc OPEN to the city. imagine over 100 different shops you can go into and just shop that'd be ferakin the best and there additional content could be bought

You can not compared an 2X BR drive to a 8X standard DVD drive. The way the information is stored and read is different. There have been tests where the 2X BR drive ran faster than the standard DVD drive. This is all depends on many things.

So far though the 2X BR drive has been slower though. But the number difference isn't a way to base it.

it doesn't matter. you should know what you're getting into buying a ps3. i love to install it feels PC like...

I'm not trying to be an ***, the ps3 is the only console I have. This is just an annoyance to me. I had no idea that companies would start requiring 5 gig installs, and even games that don't install do cache a hell of a lot of data, like The Show.

There's also the problem of constantly having to delete 5 gigs of installed files off the ps3 HDD when you are done with a game. That can't be good for it over a period of time.

Yeah, you can't guage it by the number... DVD speeds go up and down when it's reading data at certain parts of the disc... blu ray drives read the whole disc at a constant 2x.

Well, a lot of the internet blogs have ruined it too. Not a huge thing, but I'm peeved too about this revelation. Not sure if you had the same reaction that I did when I heard Samuel L in San Andreas- that was awesome.

Granted, I have no idea who this guy is but it would have been cooler to hear his voice and find out later.

That's why I don't read those blogs.

I figured most of the guys here on OS would have the common sense to try and not post the name of a comedian people know is being kept under wraps. Apparently not.

Either way, no big deal and no point in dwelling on it. I think it's only speculation at this point.
