So, I finally popped in WT last night and I'm not sure how much I will play this compared to Rock Band. I can live with the whole presentation/cartoonish-style because that is Guitar Hero, but what really disappointed me was the mixes of the songs - everything sounded muffled for some reason.

Interesting, I recall someone making a post a while back in this thread that the audio was sourced from Line 6, a company with a great reputation for its pristine output.

I haven't played the game through my system to hear it, so I don't know whether it sounds better or not.

It doesn't sound nearly as clear as RB2, or even the previous GH for that matter. I mean, in the other games I can tell when I whammy a note, but with WT I don't hear a distinctive difference. Maybe its the way the songs were mixed, but on the speakers on my TV everything just kind of runs together.

There is a difference. The songs don't sound as loud as RB2.

Well to be fair, when I whammy in RB2 there is a faint crackle that I hear. I can hear it more with my home theater system than I can here at home (I wanted to make sure it wasn't just my speakers, and it's not), but it's there.

Tell me, does Guitar Hero still have the stupid Star Power sound effects? Firstly there's the electrical surge sound when you activate it, and secondly there's the echoing guitar tone, which also had a slight distorted sound. At least, that was prevalent in GH3. I never gave another Guitar Hero game enough time to notice (that, or Best Buy was too loud ).

Yeah, I can tell when I whammy with RB2. Its not nearly as distinctive as GH3 or GH2, but I can tell when I whammy.

As far as the Star Power goes, I didn't notice any activation sound.

I've only played GH:WT at a demo kiosk, but unless my ears are deceiving me the Star Power "echoing" you speak of is definitely still there. I don't recall there being an activation sound, however.

Again, it could have just been in GH3, but it's just a sound that's like... "KSSRWHHCHRWTCHKSCH!" It's the sound of the blue surge things going up the fretboard when activated. It's not that annoying, but I'd prefer if it weren't there.

Rock Band's overdrive looks a lot better, IMO.

Anyone have problems gettting a decent sounding drum fill in this game? Seems like I am hitting trash can lids or something just does not sound right. I think RockBand is just a better product all around

The echo is there. I don't mind it since that's what I have on with RB as well.

You mean you chose that option, or that's what you're hearing?

If it's the latter, just know that there's that thing on the guitar that allows you to switch what kind of effect you want the guitar to have with overdrive. You may be on Echo or Chorus (I have it switched to None).

Thought about buying this because you can use the RB 2 instruments to play, but after reading through the thread, I think I will pass. Plus the fact that there are a ton of songs on RB2 that I have yet to really play.

About time we got Black Betty!
