Re: Rock Band 2
So, I have a question. I've only briefly played GH, and have never played Rock Band. I'm really trying to convince myself to pick up RB2, as I think it'll be fun for the ocassional party game. I do think the parties will be few and far between. Also, I have a 6 year old son who I believe would enjoy rocking out on the "no fail" mode. I myself am very interested in the drums, but I wonder if I'll burn out on them quickly and find myself using the guitar more often. Would it then be better to just pick up GH? Which do you guys find easier to play? Drums or guitar?
What most concerns me is that I most likely will be playing this game solo more often than with a group. I don't game online too frequently, and my skills will be pretty poor that I wouldn't want to disrupt others who are seaosoned RB players. So, here's my dilema. I've read RB1 has a better single player mode, and that RB2 caters more to a "full band". I have read however that the challenge mode in RB2 is basically a single player mode.
I don't know too much about GH:WT, and might wait to see what that offers in terms of single player. Before I shell out close to $200 for the RB2 set, I was hoping I'd get some unbiased advice.
Thanks.PSN: sportdan30

Absolutely pick up Rock Band 2! With so many songs to choose from (I currently have 224 songs (55 first disc, 84 second disc, 85 DLC) and I don't even get burnt out. If you enjoying drumming at all, you'll have a blast on this game. So, I have a question. I've only briefly played GH, and have never played Rock Band. Thanks.
Personally, guitar is easier because I've been doing it longer and I simply can't get the bass peddle down. I'm still trying to adjust to using all my limbs separately. I will say that you should go with the Guitar Hero guitars (Xplorer or Les Paul) as I didn't enjoy my first Strat.
In RB2, the solo tour is within World Tour. So now the solo players can play all the challenges and gigs and earn money/fans.
I used to be a huge Guitar Hero fan (loved the note streaks, circle notes, etc) but it hit me over the summer. It just looks too cartoony. The interface is porous. The notecharts are overcharted (playing things you shouldnt be). It just doesn't feel authentic.
Harmonix is made up of actual musicians so they know what they're doing.
If I were you, I'd definitely get Rock Band 2. Shoot, I'd even rent Rock Band 1 and export the 55 songs so you'll have even more to play. Just my two cents.Originally posted by CardsFan27This is the 3rd time John Calipari has been to his first Final Four! What I'm Currently Listening ToComment

Re: Rock Band 2
RB2 solo is MUCH better than RB1 since you can do the tour mode by yourself (and on bass if you wish), whereas previously you had to have two+ local players to do the tour. The challenge is basically what the rock band 1 solo was except better. What most concerns me is that I most likely will be playing this game solo more often than with a group. You can still play online too as a band regardless of skill. I mean I've played with windseer and geonesis, me and wind were on expert and geo was on medium and it was still just as fun.Comment

Just my two cents.Sportsdan, this game is very fun and to me it is even better than the Guitar Hero franchise. I am so close to holding off on Guitar Hero World Tour. Eli hit it on the head that Guitar Hero is so damn cartoony looking after playing Rock Band that you never look at both games the same anymore.RB2 solo is MUCH better than RB1 since you can do the tour mode by yourself (and on bass if you wish), whereas previously you had to have two+ local players to do the tour. Like dk said, the solo mode now is great since you can do World Tour Mode by yourself. But we have had fun playing this thing online too and I play drums on easy and the guitar on Medium while the other guys have played on Expert. We have still had fun. I can do a few songs on Hard via the guitar, but have the worst time trying to nail that orange fret.
You and your son will have a blast, this game is well worth it. IF you can wait for the bundle next month, I would go with that. The new drums destroy the old ones by a mile, and Extreme has been praising the new guitar which I can't find anywhere. Plus, you get the 55 songs off of the first game, 85 on the new one + 20 free dlc sometime this fall...................that does not include the DLC that you may have already purchased as a RB1 owner or going to. I think I might have about 30+ songs purchased total, but not 100% sure. Like Eli said, it never gets old with the more music you have to play.Comment

Re: Rock Band 2
Wow. Thanks for the in depth responses. You guys have basically sold me on the game. I have a PS3, so I have to wait another month for the full set with the game. I have no experience with Rock Band whatsoever, but it sounds as though it'll keep me plenty busy and will be great for the occasional party with friends.PSN: sportdan30

Dan
By all means pick up RB2. I think you'll really enjoy playing both the guitar and drums. If you can rent RB1 (or borrow from someone else who has it) you can import all but 3 songs for only $5, so you basically have 130 songs to work with right off the bat. There is just so much variety with the RB series, it's amazing. If you haven't already, check out the DLC catalogue on wikipedia.
I used to be all for the GH series, but I can hardly play GH3 anymore. It's hard to explain overcharting until you play RB for a long time and try to go back. The folks at Harmonix make one heck of a product.
The single player mode in Rock Band 2 is awesome. You can play the entire World Tour solo, which is a huge plus from the first game. The multiplayer is where this game really shines, especially the no fail mode for parties. You can just rock out and have fun. The RB interface is cleaner than the GH stuff. Just take a look at some of the GHWT videos. Yes, I'm talking to you purple bass pedal. Ugh.
Anyway, as long as you're not playing with total jerks, you're totally fine playing on easy. Makes no difference to me, the goal is to just have fun. I really think you're going to love it. I used to play football and basketball games, but since I've gotten hooked on these games (for about the last year) I've sparingly played anything else. I love it.Xbox Live Gamertag: MizzouBrentComment

Re: Rock Band 2
What guitar controller are you using? I've found that the old X-plorer is the best one...it's much more reliable than anything else. I love the feel of it. I've had nothing but problems with the Les Pauls.Xbox Live Gamertag: MizzouBrentComment

Re: Rock Band 2
Its the Les Paul, but I haven't had any problems with it until now. Like it will register the orange, but on long notes, it will stop registering for a split second so I won't get all the points and stuff.Villanova Class of 2012

Re: Rock Band 2
It's probably a connection problem with the detachable neck. The Les Pauls are notorious for the fret buttons having the fret buttons register correctly, but I've never had any problems with them. My strum bars suck. First one had the downstrum die, and the current one double registers from time to time. Very annoying, because I really like the les paul.Xbox Live Gamertag: MizzouBrentComment

maybe we can actually get a full band, i need the x8 achievement still imoComment

Re: Rock Band 2
I have the same problem with my Les Paul, too. I'm not sure what causes it because sometime it will do it, while others it works fine.

Did you guys ever see the fix I had posted months ago. It's hilarious, but it works.
