Re: Final Fantasy 13 (PS3/XBOX 360)
Higher resolution (720p in-game, 1080p FMVs), LPCM 5.1 audio, and 1 disc.
360 version is sub-HD (1024x576) both in-game and FMVs. It's not bad looking by any means and despite the drop in resolution, it holds up fairly well in motion, except for the compression in high-action FMV sequences.
Which is also mentioned by 1UP in their comparison.
And the nice thing about FFXIII on 360 is that its combat is every bit as smooth as on PS3. Everything flows the same, the feedback is just as responsive, and all in all battles play out just as well as on PlayStation 3.Once you see a cutscene, any doubt is instantly erased: The PS3 version is by far the better-looking rendition of FFXIII.
...
There are all kinds of compression artifacts, and the audio sounds hollow. It's still an impressive-looking game, no question, but when I went back from 360 to PS3 it was almost like someone had stripped a layer of grime off my TV. The PS3 version is just that much crisper and more colorful. Since Square had only showed off the good portion of the 360 version -- namely, its combat -- this drop in cutscene fidelity is a surprise, not to mention a disappointment.
That being said, my review score holds true for both versions of the game, because I make a habit of reviewing games, not technology. Unless tech issues affect gameplay, I really don't care; in this case, the overall experience is equal on both platforms. (Unless rumors of malfunctioning third discs are true, that is....) If I'd never played the PS3 version, I'd be perfectly content with the 360 edition. So, there's no need to stoke the flames of fanboyism with split scores. FFXIII is a good game regardless of its platform. Personally, though, I'm opting for the PS3 version now that I'm spoiled by its shiny goodness.Last edited by Flawless; 03-08-2010, 02:36 AM.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Final Fantasy 13 (PS3/XBOX 360)
I've been playing a lot of RPGs lately -- a genre that I used to not be too fond of in the past. Final Fantasy XIII looks interesting, but I'm still on the fence. I'm all about storyline in these type of games. Have most FF games been pretty good in that department? I've seen several reviews mention a lot of cheesy dialogue.GT: hawkeye2188Comment

Don't you own a PS3? Why wouldn't you get that version?

Re: Final Fantasy 13 (PS3/XBOX 360)
I read a couple of posts and apparently FF13 isn't in the same mold as other JRPG's. Personally that doesn't bother me though. I play Final Fantasy games because of a few reasons. No matter what the combat system or new gameplay mechanics they introduce the game is always fun. At times it's a bit tedious, but that is pretty normal for an RPG.
The biggest reason I love the FF series though is delivery of the story. For the most part the stories in these games are just fantastic. It's like experiencing an epic novel or movie that keeps you always wanting more, and then all the twists and turns are further enhanced by the music. The FF series consistently puts out the best musical compositions in video games, and they are pretty much always perfect for the sequence taking place. I bring up how important the music is because I recently replayed FF8 and I couldn't get over how much it helped to make the scenes that much more engaging.
Basically though, anyone who is a fan of the FF franchise shouldn't avoid this game just because it isn't in the typical JRPG fashion. I'm going to trust a great development team to lead deliver another great game.Comment

Re: Final Fantasy 13 (PS3/XBOX 360)
This might be a dumb question, but does anyone have any idea on how long it's supposed to take to beat the game? I'm on the fence on whether to buy it now or wait and get it after the price drops.Fan of....

Re: Final Fantasy 13 (PS3/XBOX 360)
I read 60 hours somewhere... Up to 100 if you go all out with side quests and the like.
On another note, I bought a TV last night so I'd have 720p for this game, lol. I was going to get the TV anyway, eventually, but it probably says something that Final Fantasy XIII is what caused me to finally pull the trigger. I don't know what I'm gonna do when the tournament starts and all I want to do is play FF.Now Playing
