If you play the first 3 scenes before jumping into the grand campaign, you'll know enough. Build up your economy first. Trade with anyone you can. Don't go to war right away as it can be a drain. Units in the field cost alot of upkeep.

If you want some good guide tips, go to twcenter.com they have everything you need to know about Total War.

I picked this up as well as some of the other TW games on the steam sale. This was 7 bucks. Bought the additional units too just cuz everything is so cheap. Haven't played this is a while. Got what good mods I could get mostly smoke, blood, battlefield sounds, and flags.

When I used to have this game I had a crappy machine. Now I have a beast and I get to play with the FULL smoke mod with Ultra settings and it's like being a kid again!

Also heavily back into Medieval II. Forgot how much I friggin' love that game.

Hopefully you pick up Napoleon too. If only EMpire had Napoleon cannon physics, number of Europen regions, and diplomacy, you may not ever play another game.

May have to look into getting a TW game. CIV just doesn't do it for me. I like it but just gets boring after a bit.
I actually have had Rome TW for quite a while but not a big fan of the time frame.
Either Total War Empire or Medieval TW I'm thinking of grabbing

Empire is great as well. I like it a lot, but it is a challenge.

I haven't played Medieval II in a while, but I believe so. I know Stainless Steel has its own launcher, and it pretty much transforms the game(economics, battle AI, campaign AI, units, etc.). The only real downside to Stainless Steel is that later in the game, turns can take long periods of time.

Ok E:TW was very daunting at first BUT loved the battles. I went righ into a full campaign and was a bit overwhelmed. I know a lot but still was overload. I since started the smaller "episodes" of the American colonies and I should have done that first as it explains a lot.

After a while I installed the Darthmod 8.0 and have been playing since. I also am using a text mod as the tex was very small on my big tv but now all is good!
And correct.... Game will own me for a while.
I will get M2 also and maybe by the time I do the price will drop a bit.

Ok... back to war with the French

I had to delete the Darthmod 8.0 as replays of battles would not play. They would seem to save but not play. After I deleted the Mod they work again. Don't see where anyone else had the issue so I'm at a loss of what it could have been.

I honestly wouldn't bother too much with Darthmod or anything like that if this is your first playthrough. Just find a good smoke mod, blood mod, marching music, and maybe some new skins and play the regular campaign.

Yeah I'll probably do that. I did already "install" a font size mod.. Playing on a big screen was brutal with the type being so small. All is good now though.
I really liked the Darthmod though. Added a lot and could still play the reg campaign. Just teh freaking replays wouldn't play.

Either way I can't wait to get really deep into it.

So I've never played a TW game, but want to get into one before the new one comes out this year. Is this the one to get? Since the new one coming is Rome, I'll wait on that genre. It's between this and Shogun 2. What say you?!
