What do I do then with these souls I'm gathering? Game's done a nice job walking me through most things as a newbie, but that part is still unclear.

Same. I’m clueless as to what to do with the souls I’m gathering. Just beat the 1st Boss, now how do I level up?

Souls can be used to level up or purchase items/equipment. In the nexus there are a few merchants. You will also come across some merchants in the world. The one that allows you to level up moves around in the nexus a bit, but everyone else will stay seated. The level up NPC is the lady wearing all black and is holding a staff/stick. Some, but not all areas have shortcuts you can unlock to help you get to the boss faster

I'm not sure which area you're in, but let's say the archstones in the nexus from left to right is 1 through 5. You should go through 1-1, 1-2 and 2-1 first. If you're feeling good, you can try to complete 4-1 a little earlier as that can get you some good gear and souls.

Thanks! I just finished 1-1 (the blob boss). I was really unsure where to go. Wasn’t sure if I should keep going in that same stone or move to the next one.

I’m guessing the shortcuts persist? Let’s say that I have a bunch of souls, but I need to fight a boss next. Should I just go back to the nexus, cash them in and go back via the shortcuts?

Yeah, once they're open they stay that way for the rest of the game.

I didn't think anything was going to pull me away from Trails of Cold Steel 4 given how invested in that series I am, and wanting to see its conclusion - but go figure that a remake of an 11 year-old punishingly difficult game would. I'm getting further into the game than I did on the PS3, and enjoying it more the further I get. I'll spoiler tag the details - it's not like I'm really far yet, but as my progress in the game is spread around a bit I just want to be careful.

This is a really beautiful game on next-gen. Overall, it's a pretty brilliant game that I never played on PS3.

The graphics look great and it’s gotten great reviews but almost every review I read are from people that loved the original and already played it. I’ve never played it and have serious concerns over whether the actual combat could stand the test of time. It looks OK but until you actually play it you don’t know. I tried Bloodborne years ago when it was free and thought it was trash. Super clunky combat with weak graphics and I quickly deleted it. My son wants this game and I really don’t know.

As someone who's much more interested in exploring than combat, this game does combat really well. It was frustrating at first until you learn the ropes, which includes your character build, but now it's fun and requires actual strategy in most confrontations.

This is one of the better games I've ever played. Highly recommended.

If you thought Bloodborne combat was clunky... you're not going to enjoy this game. Bloodborne's combat controls are much faster and responsive whereas Dark Souls and Demon Souls is much slower.

I loved this game. I’m passing on Cyberpunk to wait for the PS5 patch in 2021, so I may play through Demon Souls again on new game + after I finish Days Gone.

5-1 was for me the most trouble area. After that It was smooth. In ng playthrough 3-1 with the official and 4 dogs gave me trouble.
