    Re: Valkyria Chronicles

Quick heads up about the DLC - they appear to be skirmish battles, which means there isn't really going to be any plot tie ins, aside from maybe the mission introductions (which don't seem to be voiced). Skirmish also means you aren't using pre-set units - your levels are the same as whatever game you loaded. So, if you just started a new game and try to go into one of these, you'll probably get wiped clean off the map with characters at level 1.

Fortunately, you aren't limited to Edy's band of merry misfits in these like the episodic content - again, your squad is whatever it is in the game you loaded, and you can choose between any of them.

How long is this? I rented it when it first came out and was gonna buy it but didn't get the chance to,thinking I might rent it again.

I think it took me around 40/50 hours while watching the 'optional' videos and doing the extra missions.

Definitly give it a shot if you have time. I just played through in the fall and this game was one of my favorites in a long time.

the game certainly has an epic feel to it, especially given the fact its based on WWII. Is the story epic as well?

A quick look at my first clear data shows 45 hours. Probably significantly more than that though, since I game over'd multiple times.

I watched all the scenes, and did some of the extra missions and skirmishes.

Sega's teasing a Valkyria announcement at the Tokyo Game Show:

In other news, VC2 came out on Tuesday...and I still don't have it. Late shipments suck (it's not street dated, so places don't have them shipped until release day - or in this case, later).

I played this game a little bit about a year ago and made it to like chapter 10. Ended up with too many other games to play and never got around to finishing it. I just finished off RDR and Im waiting for Mafia II to get here. So Im going to see if I can get some VC in over the weekend.

I finally got around to finishing the last of the retail skirmishes. There is $20 worth of DLC for this game in the PSN Store. I'm thinking of getting a couple but I can't tell fromm the descriptions if I'm paying $5 for a single skrmih or if there are multiple skirmihes in each pack. For those of you who bought the DLC what do you think?

Enter the Edy Detachment- One mission, the replay value comes from experiencing it with different squad mates.. 5/10, probably the worst value of all the dlc.

Behind Her Blue Flame- Beyond awesome, 9/10.. Without spoiling much, it will give you a different perspective on Selvaria.

Hard Ex Mode- Self explanatory, feeling bad ***, feel like VC no longer poses a challenge? Get Hard Ex Mode. 7/10.

The Challenges of the Edy Detachment- Great value here, adds 6 new missions.. 10/10.. Probably the best piece of dlc the game has to offer.

thanks for the info. Is "Behind Her Blue Flame" multiple battles?

3 missions if I remember correctly.

A heads up on Hard Ex - Don't try to play it until reaching L20 unless you like having your 7's killed off before you can blink. Heck, even on HARD skirmishes all enemy soldiers are at L20.

Enter the Edy Detatchment and Behind Her Blue Flame are separate from the main plot and give your characters pre-set levels. So they can be played at anytime. However, the Edy Detatchment mission does have main plot spoilers so you might want to steer clear of that too. Blue Flame is something of a prequel so there aren't really any spoilers there.

The Challenges DLC also has enemy soldiers at fairly high levels, so they might be best completed after the main story as well.
