        Re: Red Dead Redemption

Gotta be honest fellas, I haven't a clue when it comes to technical specs. I found a list of some features on each system when I did some digging, and seeing as how i'm getting this mostly for single player (meaning Live vs. PSN isn't a big deal), do any of these specs mean problems for either system?

        - No vSync enabled at all in 360 version so screen tearing can be seen at times especially when rotating the camera in fast motion, vSync is Enabled on ps3 version

        - 90km2 draw distance on both consoles, same as Just Cause 2

        - 2x quincuix anti-aliasing for ps3 version, 2x anti-aliasing for x360 version

        - ps3 version's FPS increases to 31-32fps & then drops back to the average 30.0fps at random times which is really odd.. the same thing happens with the ps3 version of Just Cause 2 so all is well. 360 version is locked to 30fps no

        - PS3 CELL's SPUs Usage - 0% usage

        - Xbox 360 CPU Usage: 60-80% (Tops at 100% at most times though)

        - PS3 CPU Usage: 50-68% (Tops at 92-98% at most times)

        - Euphoria uses up most of the CPU power especially when walking about & running down peds with horses but the world streaming is what takes up a huge chunk of the performance available also

          - PS3 CELL's SPUs Usage - 0% usage

what? SPU usage 0? ummm no.

I know you are just "reporting" this but that and the CPU usage stats smell like a fanboy trying to explain why the PS3 version is not better looking than 360

and ALL games push each CPU to 100% at times. (there are 3 individual CPUs on 360 and only one on PS3 + the SPUs) so no way it is not using the SPUs for computationals on a game as advanced as this. no game uses no SPUS anymore.

also the pixel counters are suggesting PS3 version 640P no AA and X360 720P 2xAA (same as GTA). Let's just all wait until Digital foundry does their head to head to confirm details such as these. In fact unless someone is a Dev at R* and are using the testing tools on the developer copy, there is no way anyone could decipher those exact %'s.

                Great read!

                from the article:

One of the buzzwords in the game industry these days is immersion. Rockstar scoffs at that. Red Dead Redemption, which is scheduled to be released Tuesday for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, does not merely immerse you in its fiction. Rather, it submerges you, grabbing you by the neck and forcing you down, down, down until you simply have no interest in coming up for air.

Haven't read of any story expansions, but there will be free DLC in June consisting of 6 co-op missions designed for 2-4 players.

judging by the success of the GTA4 DLC, it's a pretty safe bet that they will be offering content for a couple years to add to the stories. I think the Co-op stuff is free though.

Someone found a list of cheats. I'll put them in spoilers just in case, so whoever is interested click away. I don't know the codes yet, but there seems like some cool things in there.

There are a couple of people that got the game early that really didn't care for the setting, genre or GTA style. After a day, they fell in love with the game. Says alot.

a lot of people getting it early were either pirates or gaming journalists or ties to the industry and got free or trial copies.
