Good to see they're including the new d-pad on the controllers. I'll probably get one when the price hits around $40 on Amazon.
I wish I could afford it. With R3, GOW: Origins, Scarface BD, Star Wars BD (will most likely get that from Fox PR) and whatever else is coming in September this thing will be nearly impossible to buy unless I sell one of the kids. J/k

I wonder if they will release the controllers though. I would love to get my hands on one of those.

Says in the link that they will. I don't like themed consoles but I'm all over the controller.

Actually I take that back. If they made a Mass Effect N7 themed console then I would get it.

That is great, will get one of those controllers for sure. I use a 360 controller for the PC so this will be nice.

          Re: Gears of War 3

          Horde Mode 2.0

Horde 2.0 introduces the idea of fortifications and command posts. The concept was born out of the fact that in Gears 2's Horde mode, most players would steal Boom Shields from Boomers and set up defenses. With 2.0, they're simply building that concept right into the game in a deeper way.

To start, players choose one area on a map they want to hold as a fortification. What you choose will depend on how you want to play, or what you think is going to work best for your team. In my hands-on with a map called "Hotel," we set up a command post right outside the streets adjacent to what appeared to be a larger courtyard. As you progress, it's possible to expand your "area of influence" by purchasing new (and expensive!) command posts, although we never got that far in my demo.

When the match begins, you'll start with a handful of cash to spend on building up defenses, including barriers, turrets, decoys, and more. **** predetermines ahead of time what's placed where, marked by green outlines of the objects scattered about the map. As waves progress, additional cash is earned by way of kills and helping your teammates. Between each wave, you'll have a small window of opportunity to upgrade or repair damaged objects before the next begins.

These objects are also upgradable, so spending cash wisely and strategically planning your fortifications is key to success. One example of an upgrade I saw was the barrier -- the first level was a short strip of caltrops, while the second was a taller barbed wire fence. Further upgrades, I'm told, will even include laser barriers that can act as offense as well as defense.

Even though tight cooperation was key in Gears 2's Horde mode, **** has pushed it even further with Horde 2.0. You can now swap weapons and ammo, for instance. You can even combine cash to build up your fortifications faster.

Once thing I quickly noticed as I progressed through the waves is that Horde 2.0 features a more diverse line up of enemies than its predecessors. **** says the mode will feature five different sets of creatures of the Locust and Lambent variety. Every ten waves (there are 50 total) you can expect to face a "boss" battle, so you'll want to pace yourself for battles against the likes of the enormous Brumak and more.

To keep things even more fresh for players, **** is throwing in both Bonus Objectives and "mutators" into the mix. I only saw the bonus waves in action; one tasked us with getting a certain number of headshots in a limited amount of time. Successful completion of the task would reward us with additional funds, as well as bonus loot. As for the mutators, you'll be able to use them to change up the game in private matches. Some of the mutators sound kind of ridiculous, but in the best ways possible -- Big Head Locust mode, and even a sitcom-style laugh track.

****'s Horde mode was fun on its own, which is why other developers couldn't seem to help themselves from yanking the concept for their own titles. Horde 2.0 is upping the ante with new features, multiple maps, and a theme song about the mode written and performed by Ice-T and Body Count. Seriously.

Horde mode 2.0 sounds absolutely badass. Should be fun just like last time with OSers.

                  No gears ps3 Cliffy confirms

In response to long-running rumours started at GDC, **** design director Cliff Bleszinski has said that "there's zero chance of Gears of War being on the PlayStation 3. Can we bury that now?"

Speaking to Industry Gamers at E3, he also added, "we have a great deal with Microsoft, they're a great partner".

When asked about ****'s President Mike Capps's comments during GDC - " I'd love to ship the Gears trilogy on PlayStation" - Bleszinski riposted, "It's one of those things that would be exciting news. Hopefully DualShock would get tweaked a little bit, but anyway, enough about that." (Cliffy B's entertaining vilification of the DualShock controller has long been a source of amusement and incendiary headlines for the online games press.)

So it seems that Microsoft will retain, for the forseeable future, exclusivity to one of its headline franchises. That's that rumour dead, then. Anybody surprised?

Gears of War 3 is out September 20. Incidentally, VG24/7 has noticed that the BBFC has listed Gears of War 3 as containing 90 minutes of cutscenes.

Would he really have to confirm that? Amazed he even gets asked that question. It's a Microsoft published title.

That would be like people asking about Killzone, The Show or Uncharted on 360.

No matter who makes them, they are first party titles.

Yah... I mean, I would love to see Gears on PS3, but it's a pretty silly thought considering (as you mentioned), it's a first party title.

Mike Capps was the one in an interview at GDC that said he would like Gears on the PS3. In his interview he said that E-P-I-C owns the IP, unlike Sony whom owns KZ, The Show, and Uncharted IP's. Then he went and made the comment that they can take the franchise wherever they want. I think that sparked up all kinds of rumors.

True, a better comparison would be Resistance. Since it's made by a 3rd party developer, who owns the IP rights, but Sony holds the publishing rights. Same is true for Gears.

I thought that Sony owned the IP, because when rumors about Insomniac going multi-plat started up, both Ratchet & Resistance were mentioned as being Sony owned. I could be wrong there.

I don't blame E-P-I-C for keeping Gears on 360 based off of what Cliffy said. MSFT has gone all out in marketing, etc. with this franchise that it is worth keeping this relationship as is. I'd love Gears on PS3, but would Sony even market this a fraction of what MSFT has, probably not.

Like you said though, Microsoft has been very, very good to E-P-I-C, so I really doubt we see this go multi-plat anytime soon (if ever).
