EDIT: Got the update... 507MB? I thought it was 2GB? I guess I'll find out what happens after this update is done.

Anyone else having problems with matchmaking? My NAT is open, but it seems to be taking forever getting into games

Been playing this, having a blast. First time Gears player so it is quite an adjustment. Me mainly being a CoD player the controls are a bit tough, but I'm getting used to them.

My main problems are I often get caught/stuck on cover and my character does things I don't want him to do... which ends up to me dying. Also I find it hard to aim directly after sprinting... I see these guys running like rambo and getting 3 shotgun blasts right after a Sprint... but whenever I try that I die because I can't control my aim well coming out of the sprint. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

My only issues are the Retro Lancer charge seems to have an insane range I've gotten killed by it when I thought I got a direct shotgun blast to the face of the charging guy.

You've described the issue actually, this is your first experience with Gears and the majority of people on the beta (me included) have been playing Gears since the 1st one came out (2006), so we've been doing these tactics for years. After playing for a while you will start to get the timing and distance down to know exactly how to setup people with the shotgun out of running/rolling. Blind-firing allows you to get the quickest shot coming out of it, but you have to learn the hitbox of the shotgun.


On a side-note, I didn't like Old Town much earlier but I'm loving it now because of the many flanking opportunities that the map layout offers!!

Glad to have finally been able to play on the Old Town map. At first I was lost and let down by the map. But once I learned the layout I'm having a great time with it. So far based off of the 4 maps we have been given , GAW3 maps are a huge step up from 2.

Not sure why people are saying the Sawed-off Shotgun is unbalanced. Seemed pretty balance to me when I played some of the beta last night.

I started playing this today, and for being terrible at it I have actually really enjoyed it. Most of the time when I am doing horrible at a game I hate playing it, but not this one. I have played the other Gears games, but never really got into the online play so this is somewhat new for me.

So 2nd day ever on Gears, I guess you can say I'm slowly improving. I just hate how I can have an amazing match one time and pull off some fancy shotgun kills, and just cross people like crazy with your Rifle and get a ton of downs and assists... and then the next match you play some better players and get reminded of how much of a noob you still are.

I'm doing some good things.. starting to learn the maps and power weapon placements better, starting to gain more in combat prowess... when i'm being pushed, when to back off and run. Starting to learn the shot placement of the Shotgun better which is helping me win more shotgun duels.... but then I still make noob mistakes like Inking, Nading myself in the heat of the moment, getting stuck on cover, hitting the wrong Button on the Dpad (terrible when you pull out your smoke when you needed to pull out the Gnasher uggh!!!)

I really like it though It's a challenge and definitely more challenging then Call of Duty... you feel so rewarded when you start getting some kills in this game. Atleast I'm taking my lumps in the Beta so when the Retail version comes out I'll be further ahead then if I had not been in the Beta.

Really enjoying the beta, had an intense game of King of the Hill on Old Town which I'm going to upload to my Youtube Channel, once I split the video into parts and render them that is...

When I've been in a party or had a smart team, the game has been AMAAAAAZING...

When I get a team of *******es who want to be Rambo and don't have mics, it's been fun, but frustating..

A little teamwork really goes a long way in this game.::

G'dang!! So I started playing for the first time last night and talk about humbling! I'm getting destroyed out there! I can't seem to get a good hold on how to work the sawed-off; the best rule of thumb I'm hearing is to treat it like a melee weapon but kills are hit or miss. Sometimes I'll blow a guy apart at close range and other times within the same range I won't even hurt the guy.
