Just finished up the campaign...took about 8 hours on normal...WOW

Believe they said it would be 10-12 hours so looks about right.

Well I'm up to Chapter 3 on Act 1 and I can say it has been a "Helluva ride" Took me roughly an hour to get to this point and I have died twice.

I had to make myself stop because it was becoming to addicting. Hopefully OS will have a MP team so you guys can show me some tricks.

Gears of War 3 creates one of the best combat experiences in video games. You don’t get to be an invincible hero who mows down enemies by the hundreds. Rather, each kill is hard-earned. You have to duck behind cover, peer around corners, and revive fallen comrades as you dodge heavy fire. Gears is an experience, a feeling. The exhilaration of the roadie run, the full-bodied thud of sticking to cover, the pop of a successful active reload, the swish of a roll, the crunch of a headshot. Everything in the game is visceral, is felt; everything carries an internal cadence, a rhythm. Gears of Wars 3 is an almost perfect shooter that you just cannot afford to miss out on, even if that comes at the cost of buying a DAMN new console.

Review embargo lifts at 12:01 a.m. Pacific time, so expect to see a flood of them hit online at that time...

And I'll be shocked to see any credible reviewer give this below a 9. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, sure, but a great game is a great game. And Gears 3 is a great game.

How did you find out he was a reviewer?

We were playing MP and I ask how did you get the game early and he then told me he does reviews for early releases. He was a legit guy from what I could tell.

From the taut Versus competition to the two great cooperative modes, Gears of War 3 delivers immensely entertaining experiences on both sides of The Locust War. But the real triumph is the campaign, a masterpiece of exciting gameplay and emotional storytelling that stands head and shoulders above its predecessors. Even if you don't remember where you were on Emergence Day, this is one adventure you won't soon forget.

Gears of War 3 has left me with a parallel set of emotions. On one side, it represents a powerful elegy, a close to a series that has done much to define this console generation. It's a melancholy thing, seeing a solid conclusion for characters that a lot of us liked despite ourselves, that make themselves even more understood in the end. But Gears of War 3 does it with respect and grace, and even subtlety, for a fantastic experience from start to finish. And it bestows a postscript of one of the most full featured, fun, and polished multiplayer experiences I've ever played. Gears of War 3 has finally kept the promise the series made six years ago, and then some.

Gears of War 3, then. In its multiplayer, all you could have reasonably asked for; in its visuals, new heights reached, while cracks of old age are papered over; in its story, a fitting conclusion; and in its campaign, though short of the consistent brilliance of its predecessor, a mostly rousing and memorable spectacle.

So where do you go after "bigger, better and more badass?" You go to your fans and give them that which they crave. But now **** has surely exhausted the formula in its current form - and, probably, on current-gen - the really exciting question is: where next?

IGN - 9.0

Gears of War 3 represents state-of-the-art design and gameplay where you become the king badass among a gory world of bad-asses. Every third-person, cover-based shooter from here on out will likely be compared to Gears 3, and it provides a fitting and poignant-- if sometimes cheesy -- closing chapter to the trilogy.

The noted hitches, design decisions and ‘been-there, done-that’ feel of much of the content colors the overall experience, but it certainly didn’t keep me from having one hell of a good time. I imagine you’ll feel the same.

CVG - 9.0

There's no doubt the series has grown with every instalment, and number three sees **** at its unsurprisingly best.

Original or not, the solo campaign is solid in every department and brim with class, while the Versus, Co-Op, Horde, Beast and ambitious DLC plans should see Gears live on for years - even if this is the last time **** has to use that chainsaw gun. For the record, we hope it isn't.

Videogamer - 9

Few games offer up as much as Gears of War 3, and even fewer manage to do it this successfully. This is quite easily the best Gears of War yet, weaving excellent core mechanics together with the renewed perception of an ever-maturing developer. Once again, **** has successfully iterated on a series that most other developers are still desperately trying to imitate.
