        Re: Fable III

I'm torn on this one. I played through and finished Fable II, and was having a good time. Then I got to the end, and for some reason the way the game ended just put a damper on my entire experience. I don't even remember the ending and why it did that. I sold the game right after I beat it, instead of going through it again like I expected to do. So I'm not sure if I should get into Fable III or not .. hmm.

          Re: Fable III

Pretty much everything we know so far:
          • Holiday 2010 release
          • No more childhood - You start out at the age of 18, as the son or daughter of the Fable II hero.
          • Fable III will read your save file of Fable II.
          • The first half of the game you will make promises and gain support to take over the throne.
          • There will be much tougher choices with wider consequences.
          • Players must choose what promises they keep when they were gaining support.
          • The nation of Albion will be divided.
          • You will see poverty and injustice.
          • For the first time in Fable there will be another continent other than Albion called Aurora.
          • Inspired by Historical references.
          • Takes place 50 years after Fable II - close to the industrial age.
          • The Dog will be returning.
          • There are extreme morphs such as Demon and Angel wings that will come out when you hit the expression button.
          • True co-op experience - you can bring your own hero and dog. You have separate screens and are not tied together, but you do have to stay in the same region.
          • Your weapons will morph with you depending how you use it. The strength, shape, size, curves, textures will all change based on how you use weapons. A couple examples given are killing a lot of innocent people will make it drip with blood or glow if it's only used to kill enemies. Kill a lot of a specific enemy and the weapon will start to have characteristics of that particular enemy.
          • Your Fable III gamerscore factors into the weapon morphing.
          • You can trade weapons online.
          • The touch system will allow you to hold hands, drag people, and throw your child up into the air amongst other things. Inspiration came from ICO.
          • More gore if you're evil when you kill things.
          • Many finishing moves have been added into the combat system.
          • No HUD
          • There is no longer experience it is replaced by the number of followers you have.
          • Magic is now based around objects, like rings. If you have the Ring of Fire, you can cast fireballs or AOE fire spells. The cool thing is you can weave magic the way you like. 5 fingers, so whatever you have on the first finger is your primary weave, that weaves into the second, third, fourth, and fifth finger. Rings morph and change just like the weapons.
          • The name of the tyrant king is Logan.
          • You can be even more of tyrant king than Logan when you gain the throne. An example given was if some people aren't paying their taxes, you can go slaughter them yourself or send your army to do it for you.

I'm going to stay on the sidelines for a while with this one. The first Fable hooked me, the second got old fast (though I still finished it), with both falling short of their lofty promises. I think I've finally learned to avoid the hype machine known as Peter Molyneux.

I'll probably wait for a price drop this time around.

What lofty promises were made for the second one? The only thing that didn't turn out how people thought was the co-op.

I was never a fan of your character looking like a devil, or Angel. And i really hate how easy the game is. an RPG needs to test your might.
I only played Fable 2 for a few hours. Were' there any rivals in that game? that was the best part of Fable one, but they never executed it the way i would've liked.

                    Re: Fable III

I thought it was fairly easy, but it didn't really bother me. I can see Fable III being more of challenge, maybe offering some sort of hard mode, which many on the Lionhead forums were asking for to come via DLC. RPG is a loose term these days, and I've always seen Fable as more of action-adventurer than an RPG.

I thought the difficulty level was fine. I simply would have liked to see a little more punishment when you died was my issue. It really doesn't seem to penalize you enough when you die. Since it's pretty difficult to die I think they should make the penalty fairly heavy.

I'll be buying this game when it comes out but let me say this.

Please make and release far better DLC than Fable 2's. I regret buying Fable 2's DLC because it was just garbage. The first DLC was alright I suppose but too short and no reply value what so ever. Why would I want to go back to Knothole Island after I've done everything there.

The second DLC was better with the addition of the Colluseum but that was far too easy even though they said it would offer up a challenge...

I just hope they make it more of an "open" world game with better AI. I'm also looking forward to being able to touch and hold things, thats going to be crazy.

Anyway thats just my two cents on the matter.

Because i played the first one. and i had a tremendous amount of health potions without even trying.
They seem to cater to the casual player, and want everyone to beat the game. How can they make someone who sucks beat the game? by making it easy.

John Cleese to play butler in Fable III

Peter Molyneux has revealed that comedy legend John Cleese is providing a voiceover for Fable III.

The announcement was made during Molyneux's speech at the Game Developers Conference. He showed the audience how the pause menu from previous Fable games is being replaced with a set of rooms your character can wander around, accessed at any time by pressing the start button.

These include a dressing room where you can see clothes displayed on mannequins, rather than presented in a list you have to scroll through. In the room is a butler, who Molyneux described as being like a cross between P.G. Wodehouse's Jeeves and Albert from Batman.

"We were inspired by the idea that people kept saying we were making this game with Monty Pythonesque humour, so we got John Cleese as your butler," Molyneux said. Apparently the butler will lay out your clothes, picking a suitable outfit depending on where you are in the game's story - so fancy robes if you've made it to the role of king, for example.

"We have recorded a vast amount of AI dialogue and having John Cleese big you up in a slightly sarcastic way is absolutely wonderful," added Molyneux. "He is an absolutely fantastic character."

Fable III is coming this "holiday". Look out for a proper chat with Molyneux on Eurogamer very soon.

                                This is pretty cool.

                                Kotaku

In Fable II you'd take that action and get a 2D menu. In Fable III, your character will appear in a room full of his clothes, potions and a table representing the world map. Cleese will be in there to add some humor.
The Fable map shows up in this start-menu as one of those war-room-style maps on a table. The designers showed how a player can zoom onto it, dragging a magnifying glass across the new game's two continents, Albion and Aurora. The player can then zoom in and see a 3D representation of any part of their world, something that becomes handy once the Fable III player reaches the second half of the game and has a kingdom to rule
                                GDC 10: Designing Fable III

We also got a look at the new map interface. There's a war room of sorts where you can walk up to a map table and peer down on it. This allows you to scroll around the top of a map and look at all of the areas. Using a magnifying glass, you can peer down into each area and town. The kicker is that the simulation of the town is still going on, so you can see all of the people walking around going about their business in a simplified 3D world. I even saw Molyneux zoom further in to a single house where he could see his in-game wife and kids, and interact with them. Molyneux teased that, though it wouldn't be similar to an RTS, this map could be used for sending troops around the world once you are king or queen.

Looks like you will be able to zoom in and see where your friends are too.
