TOCA on Xbox 1 was my first real online gaming experience. I wound up playing with a lot of international cats and that was fun.

But for real, it was Gears of War, and then COD4.

Online gaming had to be Starcraft, I played that game to death. For console it has to be Socom 2! I played that with a case of beers till morning.

sfairly certain the first game I played online was the Ages of Empires series on PC. I only had dial-up then, but it wasn't a problem for that game.

for console gaming, it wasn't really a game that did it. I was involved with the beta testing of Xbox Live when they invited the public to join. the game we had to play test was NFL Fever(2002 I guess? I don't remember) an RC racer called Revolt, and a game called Wacked(I think thats what it was called). the people on Xbox Live then were great. you rarely had the bone-head kids that flood Live these-days.

my first online game on a console was with NFL Fever playing as the Cowboys vs someone from Philly playing as the Eagles. it was neat at that time playing a football game over the internet. we talked about where we lived and stuff. I think I lost, no surprise there. the Revolt game was a blast.

later we were able to play MotoGP online. that was fun for a long time. at one point I was in the top 10 overall leaderboard. however, once people started to find cheat/shortcuts/glitches/etc... I fell out of the top 100 and from then on I never cared about leaderboards in gaming.

I had never played a FPS until my brother bought me Unreal Tournament 2004 for the PC. I didnt even want the game because I didn't like shooting games at all. The graphics, gameplay, and customization soon had me hooked like no other game I played.

Onslaught was my favorite game type were you could play matches with up to 16 people on each team. The maps were huge and had futuristic vehicles that controled well. You could also download maps for free since the modding community was always coming up with new creations.

I kept getting killed because the gameplay was so fast. The feature that kept me playing was the option to spectate a match. I'm still waiting on a console game that can match the experience that I had with UT 2004.

Gaming since the mid to late 80's. Previously, I did not play online, because for some reason I cannot stand to lose to random strangers who played hundreds of more hours than me. COD:MW2 has changed all that for me and now I play all my games online. I did not even touch the single player of MW2 for the first month of owning the game.

Ghost Recon 2 on the original xbox got me hooked to online gaming.

When my mom purchased our first PC we had AOL. AOL had this game called Splatterball, It was a paintball game that used an Unreal Engine I think. I ended up joining a clan. That was the first and last time I joined a clan.

After that I got into Rainbow Six on the MSN Gaming Zone.

Then I got into Half-Life. Specifically Counter-Strike.

Ultima Online, I still consider it the greatest game of all-time at its peak.

It is also the reason I will never touch a MMORPG again, I can't remember two years of my life.

for me it was Battlefield 1942 on the PC and then Ghost Recon on the original Xbox sealed it for me. Still haven't enjoyed gaming as much as I did when I played those games.

Freshman year in college my friend and hallmate got about half of our floor playing Jedi Knight Dark Forces II multiplayer on the PC. I remember one night a bunch of us were up until 4 AM playing (it was a Friday night).

It was funny because my roommate ended up getting pretty much the other half of the floor playing Half-Life multiplayer and he played it quite often. (Actually, it was probably counter-strike) I still remember sitting at my desk trying to study while listening to all the gunfire sounds coming from his computer then the game saying "terrorists win".
