Empire Total War being a total rush job and coming out broken and without features.

No more age of empires games.

No more flight simulator games, at least there will be add ons.

Potential fall of 2k sports, bye bye need for innovation being necessary

    Licencing agreements for sports games.

I am sure there are a ton others. However, my goodness the innovation. The simple fact that I can play a game online with someone in Kansas, New York and down the street at the same time boggles the mind. This decade has been a wonderful step forward.
I gotta agree with the bold. I played the crap out of Medieval Total War I and still do to this day and Empire just never could get my attention

      Same

To me, MGS4 transcended disappointment like GTA4 into a flatout unenjoyable and bad game. The last 2 levels were okay, but my God was the story absolutely unbearable and terrible.

        Fall of 2K football

        RROD

        Madden and NCAA

        Dreamcast getting the axe

GTA4 - I think SR murdered this game. I'd rather play the first SR and def GTASA before 4. After seeing all these magazines call it game of the year, huge dissapointmemt.

I almost finished it but just gave up and ended up trading it in. I love the MGS series but hated the storyline in this game.

Different opinions for different people, but I really felt that show needed to die like 2 years before it did. When they had to start replacing people, they needed to stop.

Exclusivity agreements for NFL and MLB.

                      Dreamcast dying

                      NHL2k series going downhill

NHL 0x getting on top, but becoming stale without innovation.

The poor transition into the current generation of consoles in regards to sports games. (Missing features, poor gameplay, etc).

                      No Shenmue 3

Nintendo Wii's lack of real games, even though it leads the console market

The one that I find amazing is GTA4. So many people listed this game as one of the biggest disappointments of the decade. Seriously? I think there were far more games hyped up that didn't deliver as much as GTA4 did. It's only rated as the second best game of all time next to Ocarina of Time, according to review averages on Gamerankings.com. Sure, it maybe got slightly higher scores than it deserved, but don't see how every single review site is wrong. As a whole, it was recognized as being one of the greatest games ever. I suppose that will always bring haters around. Not to mention, a lot of people just don't like the GTA style games to begin with, since the market of open-world games has been so saturated.

I was one of those who labeled GTA4 as disappointing, and I loved GTA3, VC, and SA. For me, the locomotion system and the control lag made the game a lot less fun. I felt like I was fighting the controls to make the main character do what I wanted, not like I was playing a GTA game.

Others might disagree with me, but I think the euphoria physics system wasn't optimally implemented. I loved the new driving physics though. The bottom line for me is that it just didn't have that fun factor that all the games before it had.

The whole football genre, based on how great the games were in 2004 I would have imagined that by now the genre would be way better than it is now. 6 years of mediocrity and lack of any true advancement is amazing considering how popular the sport is. I am really rooting for Backbreaker to succeed and shake things up.

Re: Biggest Disappointments of the Decade

                            1) Sports. Simply put, with the advancement in technology and video games in general, sports has really not gone anywhere. There are a couple good games out there every year but nothing like I was expecting early on in the decade. We've seen a handful of great franchises fall by the wayside (NFL 2K, MVP, College Hoops) and little advancement in the online arena. I guess I'd partially blame lack of competition in areas, but I'll also blame the price of licenses. A lot of these companies have to fork over a big chunk of change just to have the team names, logos, and players in the game. That comes out of development and other areas that could make games better. I've gone from someone who exclusively played sports games on the console to one that does only a fraction of the time.

                            2) Innovation. This goes for all games. We just don't see a ton of innovation in games anymore. Seems almost everything being made is a FPS in some different dark, scary environment. Kind of seems like the movie industry these days, companies are unwilling to take chances and instead just focus on something safe. There are the occasional innovative game that comes out but I'd love to see some alternatives to FPS in the coming decade.

I know im going to get chewed out because of my list but:

1-Modern Warfare 2 *For a game that had 2 years to be developed to be released with some insane ballance issues and glitches is unforgiveable. To have 2 years and only add a couple of new things to it just totally pissed me off.*

                              2-No more 2k

                              3-Choops RIP

4-Halo 3 *Yes they improved some stuff but the Campaign let me down completely. A final boss thats a floating blue ball and some missions that just felt out of place. Disapointing.*

All I can think of right as this time.

Here are some that come to mind for me.
                                • sports game exclusitivity agreements, etc.
                                • Halo 3 (though I'm a pretty harsh critic of Halo in general, tbh)
                                • Red Ring of Death
                                • NBA Live series since move from PS2/XBOX to 360/PS3
                                • failure of Duke Nukem Forever
                                • decline of the Mortal Kombat series (also fighting games in general?)
                                • decline of Sonic the Hedgehog series
                                • Metal Gear Solid 4
                                • Guitar Hero selling out (i.e. every game after GH2)
                                • Nintendo Wii shovelware
                                • shift away from 2D games completely; there's still life in 2D, case and point Castle Crashers, which may be the most fun original game on the 360 IMO
                                • failure of AI improvements to keep up with graphical improvements in all video games; far too many games right now are just eye candy and a story with little substance

I may be too nostalgic, but that's how I feel.
