    Re: Ni No Kuni(PS3)

Just shipped from GS, should arrive tomorrow.

I was actually a little worried because on Saturday I got an email saying my bank declined the debit card payment (thanks for giving me so much notice on an order from a month ago!). Plus with Sunday and MLK Jr. Day right after it I didn't think it was going to ship out on time.

I should be playing this in a couple hours. Can't wait, restarted FFIX until I can put this bad boy on my PS3.

I also have to go to GameStop tomorrow to pick it up. Thank goodness for trade-ins... I still have another 80 in credit but I don't know what I'd want to even get. They don't have Eternal Sonata, so old-school (FFVI-IX, Suikoden 1&2) and Ni No Kuni will have to tide me over for a while.

Fiance might steal my copy though, since she's a Ghibli fan and said this might be the game to get her into gaming more.

So I didn't play the demo or anything so this is my first impression... Holy **** is this game absolutely beautiful. Even just the first open area you run around in prior to going to ding dong dell is stunning.

Don't have it yet. UPS usually comes around 4 or 5 central.

I'm tossing around the idea of streaming it on my Twitch channel. The problem is that I don't have a lot of upload speed and there's a lot of camera movement in battles in this game (I know this from the demo). That means the picture is going to get very blurry/pixelated when lots of things are happening on screen. I've been messing around with Graces F on my stream which is similar in that regard, and it's kinda tough to watch.

I'll link the channel if I decide to go through with that.

Yeah, no stream I could do is going to do the graphics justice - I think I'm going to pass on that.

Agree that the first look at that HUGE world map is really something. You start out on a hill overlooking a very open part of the map, and it looks like you can see for miles.

The story was introduced well, and the voice acting is pretty good as long as you don't mind the accents. Haven't gotten much of a taste of battle yet, will comment more on that later.

              Love it so far.

Battles have been fun. I have actually died once to random monsters (I slept through the day so not far in yet) in a sewer type area. They just pulled out a couple moves way quicker than I was expecting and did about 30 damage real fast. Otherwise the battles aren't bad, the stamina adds a little wrinkle in. Absolutely LOVE the game so far. Best new game I've played in a couple years.

Yeah, to be honest, I was completely lost on the demo in battle and worried that it was going to turn me off to the game. But as you'd expect, things are a lot simpler to understand in the beginning when you don't have as many options, and the game does a good job walking you through it with a few in-battle tutorials. I didn't even know the familiars had stamina in the demo - that's probably why I was having such a difficult time!

Played through to the first boss and that's where I'll stop until after the Blues game. Can't wait to get back into it, though!

Boss fight spoilers [kinda]. More so about battle tactics though.

                    It's about the... 4th boss I believe (4th or 5th).

I typically don't enjoy JRPG's, but this looks too enticing to pass on. Can someone try and explain the combat to me? Is it full on Pokemon style, or does the user have a little more control than that (ala Dragon Age)?

You'll control your movement during battle if you're not attacking, whether it's you or your familiar. The game auto-targets so once you hit attack, you'll move into range and the attacks happen automatically. You also share HP/MP with your active familiar, so if it gets KO'ed, you do too.

It's not Pokemon, but it's not a fully action RPG type system either.

Think of games like the tales of graces f... The combat is like that system.
