Heh. Trust me, JRPGs have sucked over thousands of hours out of my life.

I may get a few more trophies, but I'm pretty much done. Fantastic production values (more voice would have been nice though), classic JRPG vibe, dungeons while not the most creative didn't over stay their welcome, and Mr Drippy!

Party AI, Familiar pathfinding, and the battle system overall I found to easily be the weakest aspects. Battle system isn't bad, it just grew old for me and I thought the taming and raising of Familiars would be deeper and more interesting than it ended up being. In this regard, it pales in comparison to some older games, like SMT: Nocturne.

what levels were your characters when you played the final boss. I am at that point but have decided to go back and finish up the errands and get all the hidden treasures.

No matter, once you "beat the game" a whole ton of errands and bounties open up.

Okay, in reading some reviews I read that this had some similarities with pokemon. Without spoilers what might those be, if any?

I only got about 40 minutes in last night and didn't notice any.

I don't know what Pokeman really is, I think I missed that craze, but by the reviews I watched, it is because Oliver doesn't really do the fighting, he uses his little familiar creatures to do that for him and they have all these unique powers.

That makes sense. In the little fighting I did it was oliver whacking little creatures with a stick. That sounds like a pretty cool dynamic.

40 minutes ain't far. You can't catch familiars / "evolve" familiars yet. That's where the similarities come in.

I figured. That is appealing to me, I was one of the pokemon kids growing up and still enjoy the games.

Don't expect it to be a lot like pokemon. The fact that you have little monsters that fight for you (if you so choose) and they have different forms is about as far as it goes. A very, very shallow comparison to Pokemon.

So far I'm liking this game overall, but the fighting is a bit too much I think. I'm only about 4-5 hours in, but it seems like other than when you're in a town you are walking into a fight every 10-20 seconds..you can't go anywhere without getting into fights. The fighting system is neat but it's getting way repetitive for me.

Maybe this improves later in the game?

When you're a high enough level for the area you are in (not high for the first area, maybe 7-8ish? maybe 9?) the monsters run away from you. Obviously it scales as the areas grow in level.

No need to grind for xp before entering the town, VT. Up to you if you want to of course, but there shouldn't be a need to.
