In what Final Fantasy have you played that the protagonist has squeaky clean morals?

Regardless though, yes JRPG is it's own niche - but as is every game. Aside from MMOs, JRPGs are the most engrossing games to me. I could sit here and rant about very convincing reasons why sports games are more niche than JRPG or why FPS games are all one in the same and are horrendous for the most part.

Glad you are enjoying the game though - I think Ghibli does a fantastic job on just about everything they touch where no matter what age you are, you wind up getting sucked into their whimsical little world.

I can see people having qualms with JRPGs because at times they can be quite a bit grindy, but that's one of the reasons I love them. Different strokes, and all that stuff.

Same for me. With today's game prices, I feel comfort knowing I can pick up nearly any JRPG and definitely get my money's worth from a quality and time spent standpoint. I've never played a JRPG that didn't take over 12-hours to complete (even in college).

          Re: Ni No Kuni(PS3)

Everything about Ni No Kuni is great. Mr Drippy's accent reminds me of the Fireman Sam series. Also, the idea of people losing heart is clever and offers a relevant 'stop and think ' about life in general.

I am open to any genre of game going and the only sticking point with any of them is how much I enjoy them which is fair enough for anybody ent it? In terms of jrpg's I love the idea of a big quest underpinned by far reaching story but I have struggled to get past some of the typical things found in most of them. I couldn't imagine anyone going to work or school or just having a conversation at home with the family where there is that much gasping and over acting going on. No one in real life carries on like a jrpg character. Though I thought Lost Odyssey was very good and Kaim and the other characters where credible and enjoyable. Also Star Ocean the Last Hope was cool too and stayed just on the sane side of gaming for me. I have only attempted the two Final Fantasy xiii games and the first one was annoying beyond belief for me.

Ni no Kuni is as was just stated by another a whimsical world and its childlike character is one of its key strengths. The music score is delightful and adds a further dimension of meaning to the experience rather than the corny Casio keyboard like jingles that accompany lots of jrpg's which to me break immersion. Personally I find the music typical to many jrpg's akin to a form of torture. I can fully appreciate that others dig it but I just can't.

After Ni No Kuni I am going to give Tales of Vesperia a shot.

I am seriously thinking about getting my Vita out and picking up Persona 4 Golden. Ni No Kuni has just been such a pleasure and I have really gotten my money's worth out of it. I really don't like playing in-depth games on portable systems but P4G sounds terrific.

Persona 4 is one of my favorite games of all time, don't see how P4G would disappoint.

Thanks for the Persona 4 feedback. If I can get over having to play it on a portable, I'll be picking it up.

Two more great things about Ni No Kuni:

-My kids (8 & 4) love to watch me play it. They love the look and story but most of all they love catching familiars and then helping me name them. If I play after they go to bed, they want to see what I captured the next morning. It's great.

-Knock wood, but so far I have not run into 1 single bug or hiccup in this game. It's incredible that a game of this scale has been virtually flawless to this point. No freezing issues, no messed up quests, nothing. It's been remarkably refreshing. This has been an A+ experience so far.

Excellent point. I too haven't noticed one hiccup. Always a great thing.

I think I said it before but the girl has been getting into video games a bit more and this has been the perfect game to get her into the idea of it.

She loves to watch me play and probably gets more invested in the story than I do. It's almost hilarious sometimes when she asks to come over just so she can watch me play the game. I feel like a piece of meat pressing buttons for her sheer enjoyment. The nerve.

Just completed Ding Dong Well. I love the combat. I only have two familiars, Pies the Mite and Apricot and they are like family to me!! Haha. Game is an unexpected, out of left field serious GOTY contender already. Love how evasion plays a tactical role in battle and strategically pressing L 1 is addictive. I kind of find myself trying to give both my familiars a chance to enjoy the battles rather than clean house with just one.

                      I am smitten.

I finished this game nearly a week ago. Quint brings up a good point, I have not noticed any bugs or glitches with this game at all.

I thought the game was rather short, but I didn't realize I had invested nearly 40 or so hours in it before I got to the last part. Of course I played it on easy, but I did get my clocked clean a couple of times in my playthrough.

I want my own little Mitey now.

FINALLY got this game and loving it so far. Switching familiars in & out, knowing when to defend/attack etc. has been a blast. Out of my 3 hour play time, 30 minutes have been spent reading the Wizard's companion. Is there an app for that?

I'm still in the first town of Ding Dong Dell...

That wouldn't be a bad idea, if you haven't done any of the bounty hunts you've been given you might go knock a couple of those out. They'll help you level up and survive a bit easier.

I'm like 35 hours in now, just finished the Skull Mountain section.

I was doing pretty good in battles because my main familiars are pretty powerful but I've just evolved quite a few of them into final form and their ratings took a hit until I level them back up. I find it kind of weird that they get so weak after evolving. I think I have 7 familiars in their final form. Maybe I shouldn't have evolved them all at the same time pretty much.

Still no real complaints with the game, lots of fun. I'm still struggling to keep my other party members from using all their MP in pretty much 1 encounter, they just fly through it. Any help with this? What are good Tactics for Oliver to set at this stage to maybe have his party members save some MP?

Finished it on Sunday. Best rpg I've played this generation. Not even close. Might even be a better experience than I had when I first played the Final Fantasy series (VII or VIII, I forget).

Hoping for a sequel on PS4!
