    Re: Ni No Kuni(PS3)

Is there a website or something in-game that describes what each little symbol next to the character's names are? For example, when looking at swords for one of my familiars, it has a # next to a swoard on a red background and a # next to a sword on a blue background. Also, you see the little symbols next to each enemies picture on the right when in battle.

There are others, but I just wanted to get the idea across of what I'm looking for.

    Thanks.

Either the manual or the Wizards book.

All the manual says is what each symbol means, but not the differences. It shows the sword is physical, but it doesn't tell me the difference between the background colors. For example, the first familiar you get has two swords with one red and one blue background.

          I see what you mean.

I wonder if this is something the Strategy Guide answers.

I found the Wizard's Book online. Planning to scroll through it later tonight.

EDIT: Figured it out. Red sword is attack and the blue sword is magic attack. Basically, all the symbols stand for the abilities you can upgrade via treats and new equipment.

Never played a game like this before, at least since FFVII, which I only played for a few hours ages ago when it was released. Had no idea what a "Familiar" was and was completely unfamiliar (heh) with this sort of combat style. So far I am charmed. Put about 7.5 hours in and am having a great time and can't wait to dive back in. I am at the part where I am ready to begin the Trials, though I still have lots of side missions to do at Al Mamoon. Some things get a bit repetitive but nothing to complain about. Still a lot I don't totally understand but the tutorial system is masterful and is a blueprint for how all games should be be done. And you can find everything you have learned in the Journal in case you need a refresher.

Gonna be a while before I can play again but I am very anxious. Can't wait until I have the ability to catch Familiars. Really glad I took a flier on this game.

Is there a way to use provisions (such as coffee) to restore MP during a battle?

                    Thanks!

Yeah. Only the humans can use items, so if you have a familiar out, press L1 and select Oliver (or another person) to call it back. Then you'll see the provisions option on the menu (as well as tactics once you have more party members). Just select it and you can use any of your items.

It's a little clunky, but after a bit of practice you can get items out pretty quickly. Fortunately the battle pauses while you're in the L1 menu.

Hello everyone, is this game similar to Tales of Vesperia? I have a friend who had Tales but the disc got wrecked and it is very hard to find a second hand copy anywhere. This might interest him. He loves Tales of Vesperia.

The combat system is fairly similar to the tales series, yes. The ai isn't quite as refined but nobody could go wrong picking this game up.

Picked up a copy today. Put the disc in but my console has not been updated for some time so the game wont play. Oops. I don't have the internet for my console so I will have to lug it to my brothers place and get with the updates.

This game sounds nice and different. Yep, I am up for nice and different.

I don't really get the appeal of JRPG's. The lead male characters that look exactly like teenage girls, the cliche ridden dialogue, squeaky clean morality of the heroes and the turn based fighting systems. It is just not something I can get the hang of for any great length of enjoyable time.

Having said that I thought the story telling of Lost Odyssey was beautiful but the Final Fantasy knock off gameplay just didn't keep me involved.

BUT...Ni No Kuni is an absolute delight. It is charming, engaging, bloody good stuff. This is immediately my favorite JRPG. Mr Drippy is a classic ent it? Oliver and his familiars are great, the gameworld is fantastic, the story is interesting and the combat fun. This game is a really good change of pace for my tastes. Loving it.

I am playing this alongside Dead Space 3 haha.
