Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I'm curious to anyone who's played multiple GTA's: I knew GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas' map like the back of my hand. But with 4, I'm looking at my GPS every 2 seconds. Is the map bigger than the others, does everything just blend together, or is it just me? Didnt they used to not plan out your route for you on older GTA's?
There are a few reasons for this, and one of them is like you mentioned: too many high-rise buildings make things local areas not instantly recognizable all of the time.
There's a bigger issue, though. See, in GTA III I went for 100% and that involved doing the taxi and ambulance missions. I think that helped me figure out the map more. In GTA IV, you could only use Roman's taxi service up until the moment it went up in flames, so my hopes for that were dashed. But the big issue is the new GPS waypoint feature. Yes, it's a nice feature... but like giving elementary school students a calculator, if you want them to learn their times tables, you're not doing them any favors with that technology.
In GTA V, I'm not going to use the waypoint feature. Yes, I'll use the map (that's still up for debate though) and I'll have the highlighted point, but I don't want a route. The best thing you can do for yourself is discover your routes. We did this for III, VC, and SA. Most of us didn't do this for IV, myself included. I think this crippled us when it came to recognizing where we were, how we got to places, etc.
I think we can change that for GTA V if we eliminate the waypoint feature.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I've been shying away from looking at the actual maps, but I don't think GTA V's map will be anything like GTA: SA's Los Santos map. They're re-imagining it, like they did from GTA III to GTA IV. Sure, some areas will be recognizable, familiar, and kept as they are, but I think that's an extremely small portion that you might as well say any map memorization for SA will be obsolete.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I dont expect anything to be carried over map wise from SA to V.
I memorized all of the map for SA. I played that game way too much in HS. I do remember hating the Badlands because I would always get lost in that place.Comment

Until recently I was intentionally staying far away from any GTA news. I've only read/watched anything the last couple weeks.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Rockstar knows the gaming industry too well...they know if they use the same map as SA and add to it...there will be crybabies complaining it's too similar to SA etc.San Francisco 49ers

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I usually lose interest when playing GTA games, but I'm pumped to play V. I'm really glad that they improved the player control, especially the shooting elements. I also love the idea of switching characters at will and having different story threads going on in parallel. The scale of this game is just awesome. Great way to close out the current console generation.XBL: Mean Greene

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Yeah, I got really bored with IV. If this was going to be more of the same (as in, little to do outside of missions), I would've still been excited, but not nearly as much as now. Once they announced all of the little side things (heists, tattoos, custom cars, properties, sport minigames, seperate bank accounts for the protagonists, etc.), my excitement level shot through the roof.
As far as hype goes, i'm nearing Red Dead Redemption levels of excitement. And that says a lot.Comment

I thought I heard somewhere that the heists themselves were "side missions" and that there was more to the story than just several heists strung together.Celtics Bruins Sox Eagles Liverpool

I heard the opposite the heist are the big time missions while the ones leading up to it were not so much side missions but more like smaller ones to get ready for the heist.
Lol man that was a run on like a mug
