        Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I'm replaying Oblivion again, and man this game is Janky... I mean really janky. I love the fiction, and the world but I hope they did some MAJOR re-hauling of the quest system because I can't do another game like Oblivion. Skyrim is a day one purchase for me, and everything I've read about it so far seems great, but replaying Oblivion has me cautiously skeptical that Skyrim will deliver.

I would like to see something a lot more focused. I want to WANT to be the hero, or villain or whatever. I feel like Oblivion is just an endless array of random quests that I really couldn't care less about. I do them for the loot and that's pretty much it. Which brings me o my other gripe with TES, the loot system is awful. They need to heavily streamline the loot system, if it's trash then have an easy way to dump it, or sell it. Loot management is such an unnecessary chore, that completely kills the flow (or lack thereof) of the game. I would really like to see Bethesda drag this series out of doldrums of past gen RPGs and completely redefine the genre. High hopes, I know, but I think it's about time.

Well to be fair Oblivion is a 5 year old game. Glad they don't rush games out every year just to capitalize on $$.
Everything I've seen so far seems like the game will be a great game and I believe they will make some nice improvements. I hope the inventory system is a lot more user friendly with easily being able to compare items... etc..
Morrowind is still probably my favorite but it is a testament to the makers that people still play Oblivion.

I've never played an Elder Scrolls game, just now got to where I really like RPGs (thanks in large part to Fallout 3), and after reading about this game for a while...it's a must buy for me.

In fact, I'm pre-ordering it tomorrow night when I pick up L.A. Noire.

Having never played an ES game I'm curious (and this is a dumb question to some of you I'm sure) but beyond the quests and main story can you just roam all the lands and hunt, collect things, encounter random creatures, etc?

Another thing I'm curious about is I know there is no MP or clans or anything but I wonder if in game you're able to join a guild, tribe, etc.

Pre-ordered this last night when I picked up L.A. Noire and I was told they already have fifty pre-orders for this. Just kinda staggered me considering this doesn't drop until November and I live in a town of about 13,000.

Yep, and Yep. You can just roam the land and encounter creatures, bandits, etc.

You can also join several guilds (Mages, Fighters, Dark Brotherhood, etc)

                Great, great times.

The side stuff I'm Bethesda games is usually much better than the main storyline.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

                    Awesome.

Thats why i enjoyed FO3 and RDR so much...actually liked roaming and hunting and travelling to the various areas more than the missions. I can see it being the same in ES5...esp. with the random dragon encounters, mountains, etc.

Truth. Especially in Oblivion IMO, where the main story felt so weak.

Plus, I got sucked into the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild stuff in Oblivion. In fact, the whole "Murder House" thing for Dark Brotherhood is one of my favorite video game missions/quests.

I don't remember the "murder house". Blah, I may have to freshen up. My last play through, I didn't do the thieves guild or the brotherhood.

                        Man I miss that game.

The whole Dark Brotherhood questline is IMO fantastic through and through and the best set of quests in the game.

Thank God for L.A. Noire and the fact that NCAA 12 looks insane...November is a long ways away but at least I'll be kept busy with other games.

I'm officially fully into this game and now it's my most anticipated once NCAA drops.
