BioWare Is Working on a Modified Mass Effect 3 Ending

"To that end, Exec Producer Casey Hudson and the team are hard at work on a number of game content initiatives that will help answer the questions, providing more clarity for those seeking further closure to their journey. You'll hear more on this in April. We're working hard to maintain the right balance between the artistic integrity of the original story while addressing the fan feedback we've received. This is in addition to our existing plan to continue providing new Mass Effect content and new full games, so rest assured that your journey in the Mass Effect universe can, and will, continue."

I guess it's a good thing I didn't get this on release day. I never would have imagined something like this would happen.

Despite not having played through the game yet or seeing/reading about the ending, I still think it's ridiculous for Bioware to have to change the ending if it's truly the ending they've intended to have all along. On the other hand, I guess good on them for not ignoring their fans and addressing the criticism.

However the best weapon in the game has to be the Geth Plasma Shotgun. It's literally absolutely rediculous.

For me it is the following.

            1. Black Widow
            2. Falcon - this thing leaves vapor trails in the air, that is just awesome. Killed a Brute in 3 shots with this. Not bad for an assault rifle.
            3. Scorpion - This is my Banshee killer
            4. Krogan Shotgun, forgot it's name but it is the most accurate shotgun in the game and one of the top 3 most powerful in the game. Even though I'm not a big fan of shotguns, I always attach a blade to it and just start gutting people.

I think part of the reason is the fact people were trading this game in to Gamestop in record numbers. Bioware knowing they were going to have at least 2 more DLC for this game needed people to hold on to their copy.

By fixing the ending, that means people will keep the game and buy the DLC content they originally intended for the game anyway.

BioWare needs to be very careful about how they address this. They chose to do so and want to keep their creative integrity, but if they charge for some semblance of closure after that ending and the day 1 "From Ashes DLC", it's only going to further upset people.

I think they bit off more than they can chew. Your Shepard and choices carrying over from game to game was probably a bigger burden on them than they'll ever admit. Trying to close it all out and please longtime fans, new players, the Action/Story/RPG settings, and multiplayer in a 18 month dev cycle. A project like this should have been 3 years, but that's probably not going to happen under EA's watch.

I just picked this up and I don't understand why people are all upset nor do I want to know. But this just goes to show how much influence gamers have on games. This isn't good for the gaming industry IMO.

Man, this isn't setting a dangerous precedent by any means. That ending was flat out unacceptable. Impressed the community in unison held on and got results.

If they plan on charging me for DLC that explains the ending a little better, I'll just wait until its posted on YouTube.

Just like BlueNgold said, I hope they don't alter the ending at all because what they gave us is what they wanted to do all along. To me its like the alternate endings on Blu-Rays that are sometimes on movies. Who cares if it wasn't part of the original cut.

I agree, as someone who's beaten the game, the climax of reaching the end has already been used. Won't be the same. What's been seen cannot be unseen. Curious to see what they do regardless.

People that expect this to be free are … not being realistic. You’re expecting them to spend time/money on writing, designing, voice acting, etc. and do it all at no charge. Not because it’s something that makes the game unplayable, but because the ending wasn’t everything you thought it would be. Anyone expecting this to be free is being unrealistic and unfair.

Online gaming changed the gaming industry forever. Now damn near every game has an online multiplayer mode. Even in genres that REALLY don't need them.

IMO if they didn't add multiplayer mode to Mass Effect 3, they could have spent more time getting the ending CORRECT the first time. Same thing with the last 2 Assassin Creed games.

Ever since they added multiplayer to that series, the story of that game have gotten shorter and shorter, with it really not making much sense at all. They jumped all over the place far as story goes.

And we all have seen how online play destroyed the CPU AI game play in sports games. It has gotten to the point in the gaming industry that online play is top priority, story and game play comes afterwards, like an after thought.

I am really not expecting it to be free, I hope it will be, but people need to get paid. I just won't buy it.

Unless of course it is something so off the charts that if I don't experience it myself I will die a little inside. Then I'll consider it.

I've been saying all along, I am not up in arms about the ending at all. I'm in the...It was a buzz kill, but it is what it is, I really enjoyed the ride...boat.
